flashback 1: you sacrificed us to the gods of your bluest days

Start from the beginning

— When does it start? — Sebastian asked, pointing at the book.

— In two hours. I hope professor Binns will be merciful to me.

— He's just an old ghost, while you're the most brilliant witch of the wizarding world. I'm sure you'll do just fine — Sebastian reassured her, his hand reaching out to stroke her cheek with his thumb in a reassuring gesture. Daisy smiled at his touch, before pressing a soft kiss on his lips, careful to not draw the attentions of the professors.

— What happened? — Sebastian asked frantically, the moment Poppy Sweeting told him that Daisy was at the infirmary.

— She took her History of Magic's O.W.L and then she fainted right after leaving the classroom. I was there with her so I immediately ran to Madame Blainey — she said, accompanying him to the Hospital Wing.

— Sebastian... — Poppy called softly, after noticing him running to the corridor. — She's okay. Madame Blainey said it's just exhaustion and poor nutrition. She went through a lot, after all.

— I try to make her eat at every meal, but she doesn't listen to me. She doesn't sleep. I don't bloody know what to do. — Sebastian sighed, rubbing his face in desperation.

Poppy gave him a sad, understanding look, before leading him to the infirmary and then turning back to leave the two lovers some privacy. Sebastian looked at Daisy on the infirmary bed and his heart sank at the sight; she looked even paler than she had that morning.

— Daisy! — Sebastian rushed to her, noticing her immediately shifting into a sitting position.

— Sebastian... I'm sorry. I didn't want you to worry.

— It's alright. The only thing that matters is that you're fine — he sighed, gently caressing her hair and cheek. She closed her eyes at the touch.

— Mr. Sallow, — Nurse Blainey greeted him and he was quickly snapped out of his thoughts. — Can I have a word with you?

He looked at Daisy, who shrugged confusedly, then turned to nod at the nurse, who led him to the opposite side of the room.

— Is... everything okay? Is she alright?

The nurse nodded. — Miss Rosier will be just fine, dear boy. At first I wanted to kill you, because I thought you'd gotten her pregnant — she said and Sebastian went pale. Was there a chance that she could be pregnant?

— She isn't — Nurse Blainey quickly clarified, placing a reassuring hand on his shoulder when she noticed his frightened look — I thought so because when I asked her, she said that she hadn't gotten her period yet this month, but I ran a diagnostic spell on her and everything is how it should be. I think it's all due to stress.

— Oh, for God's sake — Sebastian breathed out, in relief. Not because he didn't want kids from her one day, but they were still in school and the time wasn't the most appropriate to conceive a baby. — I... think the stress from this year has taken a tool on her. Ranrok, Rookwood and all.

— I believe so too. Poor girl, it's unbelievable that she had that weight on her shoulders.

Sebastian wanted to throw up. He was largely to blame for her unwellness. He was the one constantly pressuring her into searching a cure for Anne, while delving further into the Dark Arts, all of this while she was trying to stop some of the most evil beings in all of the wizarding world. He was ashamed of himself.
