she's a peace sign, tea time, drinker on occasion
he's a whiskey drinking, barely thinking, got
no destination, she's a plane ride home
and i believe they're meant to be.— Should I take you to the infirmary, Sebastian?
Sebastian rolled his eyes as Samantha Dale asked the same question for the fifth time. He knew he was probably being a prick, — she was, after all, the only one currently worried about his well being —, but he couldn't find it in himself to care in the slightest.
— No, Samantha. I'm good. — he answered, in a sweet but very much fake tone, one that Samantha didn't seem to catch up on. — Actually, I'm gonna head back to my common room. I'll see you later, yes?
Sebastian saw how eagerly his classmate nodded, and almost felt bad at the way he was straight up lying to her. Unfortunately, he wasn't particularly good at caring about the feelings of most people, especially those that swooned over him just because he was a quidditch player and a typically good-looking guy. Though, he surely wouldn't have minded the attention if the black eye Alexander had just given him didn't hurt that damn much.
Sebastian knew very well that he could've beaten up the guy with extreme simplicity if he'd wanted to — sent him straight up to the infirmary with a blood-running nose and one or two broken ribs, and if he was anyone else, he would've already done that. but he was Daisy's brother and Sebastian had no intention of making her despise him anymore than she already did.
Not that he fully knew where he stood with her. One moment, she seemed to hate him fervently; the other one, he could've sworn he had her blushing during their little notes exhange in class.
But he knew he couldn't blame her at all: while it was true that he had spent the past month and a half watching her and Garreth Weasley kissing way too much for his liking, it was also true that he was the one that had lost her and, most importantly, he was the one kissing another girl in public after Daisy had drunkenly confessed her love to him weeks ago. Maybe she didn't remember, but he certainly did.
Sebastian tried to convince himself that she didn't really love him, that she was just drunk — and he knew she was, because she had passed out on his bed and he had to personally take her back to her dorm once Anne and Imelda came back from the Three Broomsticks —, but that didn't really help.
He started to think that a small, very twisted part of Daisy was still in love with him, even though he knew he didn't deserve it; maybe that was the exact reason to why he had kissed Adelaide Oakes in front of her. He wanted to remind her of who he was, and he was the guy who had shattered her heart into a million pieces, the guy who never responded to her letters when she needed him most; that she was way better off without him. Sebastian could never forgive himself for the way he had abandoned her when she was so clearly distraught by the events of her fifth year. He had truly believed that he was the reason for her struggles. Of course he wasn't, but he was so deeply remorseful that he couldn't see it at the time.
During his sixth year, Sebastian tried to rid himself completely of dark magic with the help of Anne and Ominis, but of course he fell back into old patterns while doing so: smoking and occasionally drinking to the point he would find a girl to fill the void she had left in him became his primary coping mechanisms. Others included skipping classes entirely, retreating to his childhood home in Edinburgh where he spent almost every weekend in bed, occasionally reading and/or staring at his parents' portraits. Or Daisy's pictures.
Now, in his seventh year, Sebastian was in a much better place mentally and even though he couldn't say he was fully healed, he was definitely able to try and make amends with Daisy and fix the mess he had left behind. Maybe he could even learn to accept and make peace with the fact that she was with someone else and, somehow, become her friend. Would he be able to? He wasn't sure, but he would've tried regardless.
