I wake up to a loud ringing noise. Sounds like a phone call. I groan in frustration. What could be happening that would disturb my sleep?
"Hello," I say angrily.
"Is this Lena Mendoza?"The sound of my name made me jump.
"This is she."
"I have called to inform you that you got the job at V.E.I.L."I sit up in shock. "You will be starting from next week. However, you will need to come in tomorrow morning for training."
"Thank you."The line cuts and I can't move.
I got the job. I got the job I had been working for years. All of that work finally paid off.
I definitely won't be able to sleep anymore.

V.E.I.L. have their own training facility.
I walk into the training facility and I have to say it was huge.
I knew they were a successful agency but I was still surprised. I approached the reception desk where a lady sat.
"Hello. Um...I'm here for the training session. It was scheduled for 8. I think."My pulse sped up.
"8 a.m. Let me have a look." She starts typing on her computer.
"Right. Lena Mendoza. You have a training session with one of our best young agents. You're on the 3rd floor. Room 120."I smile at her.
"Thank you."I walk into the elevator and go to the third floor as told. I tapped my foot many times. I don't know why I was so afraid.
Probably because I was scheduled for a training session with one of V.E.I.L's best agents. The elevator door opened and I walked out.
116,117,118,119 and at last 120. I push the door open and I see a back turned. He turns around and I forget everything. I forget why I'm even here.
He was unreal. Sun-kissed olive skin.High cheekbones. A strong jawline.
He had thick ash brown hair that was slightly tousled making him even more attractive.
Broad shoulders and a muscular but lean look that spoke of hours of training. He had to be at least six feet. I could actually go on and on about him.
"Are we going to get started or are you just going to keep staring?"
"Oh. Um, I'm ready whenever you are."I say nervously. He grabs a clipboard and turns a page.
"Lena Mendoza?"I nod.
"Liam Kaya." A unique but familiar surname. But I can't remember how familiar it is to me. I was too nervous and too distracted to think.
He says coldly. He doesn't obtain any expression. He seems quite rude.
He looks like he doesn't even want to be here.
"Right let's get started."He places the clipboard down on a table and pushes anything that was in the way between us.
There was now a space between us.
"First we will start with something basic. Disarm me."The command was sudden. Before I couldn't even process it he pulled out a knife.
A training knife.
I learnt many disarming techniques but this was not the same as learning. This was a test.
I approach him carefully, analysing his stance and his grip. I tried to move left with the intention of faking it and quickly grab his wrist.
But his speed caught me off guard. His hand moved in a way that took me by surprise.
Before I knew it the knife was at my throat and my back was against the wall.
For an odd reason, he seemed a little gentle. His touch was soft. So soft my heart started speeding.
Not now Lena.
"Nice try. But too slow Mendoza. And too predictable."I looked at him while trying to catch my breath.
He stepped back, giving me another go. This time I tried another approach. I fake a stumble to lower his guard before lunging at his arm.
Just as I manage to get a grip and twist his wrist, he uses my momentum against me to flip me to the ground. I landed hard on the wooden floor.
"Better. But not good enough. You need to read my body language and decide what you want to do before I make my move."His breath was hot on my neck.
I'm breathing heavily trying to catch my breath. He's staring straight into my eyes. My heart raced. Why was I so flustered?
He gets up and so do I. My body was already aching from the fall. Why was he so good for? Couldn't they have given me an agent who wasn't so experienced?
Couldn't they have given a less attractive agent?
He circled me slowly with the training knife gleaming in his hand. I take a deep breath and focus on him. His stance.
His fingers are gripped around the handle.
In a split second, he moved attempting to slash the knife. Unfortunately for him I was ready. I closed the distance between us faster than he expected and used my forearm to deflect his wrist and throw off his aim.
With a swift motion, I twist his wrist while driving my elbow into his chest. Which pushed him off balance.
The knife slipped from his grip falling to the floor. Before he could react I picked up the knife and pointed it at him.
I was breathing heavily. My heart was pounding. I was patiently waiting for his next move. Instead, a faint smile tugged at the corner of his mouth.
"Well done. You did it."I slowly lowered my knife still being a little on edge.
"Let's move on now."

That was one interesting training session. He was a really experienced agent.
I would say I did relatively good but I don't know what this trainer had planned for me.
He seems to be moody and rude as a person. As a trainer, he wasn't too bad.
I went home after that and I made sure to change my clothes before going home.
It pains me that I have to hide everything about this profession from Ava. I've told her that I'm doing law.
I guess I have to tell her I'm becoming a lawyer now. If I could I definitely would tell her I would. But she can't be dragged into this. I fear so much about losing her so much. She brought hope to my hopeless life. When I was in the dark she brought me to the light.
She needs to be safe. She can't bring herself into all these risks. And I would never forgive myself if anything happens to her.
I open the door and Ava is sitting on the sofa watching TV. When she sees me she pauses her show.
"Hey. Where were you?"I draw in a breath before answering her question.
"I got a job...as a lawyer."Her jaw drops.
"What! Already? That's amazing."She comes and wraps herself around me.
I hate myself for lying like this. But I have to continue to keep this to myself.
