CHAPTER 36

Duck and Snickers Take Charge

One Day, as Percy, James, and Gordon were getting ready to start work with Bingo, Bandit, Judo and Mackenzie, Percy wanted to talk.

Percy: Do you know what?

Gordon: What?

Bingo: You heard us! Do you know what?

Gordon: *crossly* Silly! Of course I don't know what. In fact, none of us do, if you don't tell us whatever what "what" is you're on about.

Judo: Yeah, just spill the beans already! What is going on that's so important anyway?

Percy: Sir Topham Hatt says that the work in Knapford Yard is getting too heavy for me, Bandit and Bingo lately. He also says that he's getting a bigger tank engine to help us with the shunting.

Bingo: Ooh! I can't wait for the new engine to arrive! I wonder what he'll look like! Green like Percy? Or maybe a Reddish-Orange like me! Or maybe blue like my Dad or Thomas!

Bandit: We'll just wait and see, Bingo. 

James: Rubbish! Any engine and companion could do something so easy like shunting. Percy, if you and Bingo worked more and chattered less, Knapford Yard would be a sweeter, better, and happier place.

Bingo: That's rich coming from you, James. It was your refusal to shunt as well as Henry and Gordon, that brought Percy here in the first place!

Bandit: She's right. Bingo told me all about your previous adventures and I also read about it in books. I wasn't born yesterday, ya know! 

Gordon and James went red with embarrassment and anger.

Mackenzie: They do help out with shunting now, and besides, I agree with James. 

Judo: I do too. Besides, I think the reason Sir Topham Hatt is bringing in a new tank engine is to make sure you don't pull anymore jokes on us! 

Percy let off steam crossly, and Bingo growled. Later, Percy, Bandit and Bingo went to fetch some coaches.

Percy: *crossly* That stupid old signal!

Bingo: We shouldn't have misunderstood it, and we should have gone forwards instead of backwards!

Bandit: Calm down, you two!

Percy: I can't!

Bandit: Why not?!
