~I'll go ahead and repeat myself. What?~ Kovik questioned me yet again, honestly, no faith in this partnership, I swear.
Turning around in my chair again, I sighed up at my ceiling. "You want your memories back, right? Well, I can try to fast-track that process, so I'll just jack into your mind... or, AI... thing- whatever makes up your sentience now," Shaking my head, I gestured to him with the uplink device in-hand.
It was a grey disk, like a hockey puck, and stuck to you like a magnet. They were meant to work as equipment for internal maintenance for worker drones who's heads got all scrambled due to work-related accidents. While we're mass-produced by our parent company, sometimes a good ol' mind scrubbing was cheaper than replacements. Thus, we use them to help drones with memory leaks or patches.
Or to take control of people's bodies for a bit, but that's like... totally not morally questionable.
"I'll use this to get me inside your head, then we can look around for what's called a Key Memory," I quickly brought it up on my monitor, showing off a basic diagram of a drone's brain and their 'memories' as little boxes. One of which flashed green, connecting to several greyed out ones that then turned green and so-on. "They're like anchors to a person's collective, long-term memory. We awaken that, the rest of your mind should slowly start coming back to you."
Watching him study the diagram, and start messing with it, filtering through the whole process the uplink was capable of, I heard him make those same, insect chitters and hums, considering his options, no doubt.
"Either that, or we wait around to find more nodes, but call me crazy, but I get the feeling that Kaviss freak's not gonna just let me jack one again," I drew a thumb across my throat.
~...you are certain you can operate such a delicate operation?~ He finally turned to me with that constant, harsh tone of his. ~We are talking about my mind, after all. And last I checked, you nearly killed one of your classmates-~
"Not intentional." I cut in, throwing my arm wide.
~-by nearly... overloading his processor; so my skepticism over your abilities is warranted~ Kovik pressed as I leaned forward in my chair.
"Hey, this means plugging into my own body too, since your core's connected to mine, so I'm more than serious. I took an online course, how else you think I know this stuff?" I remarked, twirling the uplink on a finger, nearly dropping it in the process. "You said for me to trust you with SIVA invading my body, so that trust's gotta go both ways, dude." I wagged a finger between us.
Kovik let out a disgruntled noise, looking around at anything but me. ~...you make... a valid argument- fine then, do your "Mind Hacking"... if it will restore what remains of the Eliksni I am, so be it~
Clapping my hands, I spun back around to my desk, fiddling with the settings on the uplink. "Great! So, normally, I'd be able to just use a controller from the outside to move around and interact with whatever's in a drone's head," I gestured to the controller off to the side. "Thing is, you're kinda shoved inside my body, more specifically, my core, so I'll have to Full-Dive with you, just means I can't move around as I am now."
~Very well, and how do we find this Key Memory?~ Kovik inquired as I slapped the uplink to my temple, using SIVA to activate everything without lifting a finger, so handy.
