Can and Sanem held hands on the drive to the Mahalle.

"Do you want me to come with you?"

"No," Sanem said trying to be brave, "I need to do this on my own."

"Are you sure you need to do this?" Can rubbed his beard, "It's a big step."

Sanem nodded a little scared but determined, "I know, and that's why I need to do it."

Can pulled up to Sanem's home. They both went silent. Sanem looked at the door she had walked through her entire life. She remembered the moments as a child running through it with a cut knee while kicking a football into the hallway. Her mother yelling down the hall after her that football was an outside sport. Her father coming through the door at the end of each day, exhausted but with a smile special for his family. Sanem held back a laugh thinking about the moments of her 5 year old self following an annoyed Leyla hoping she could could tag along on her 8 year old adventures. And then as Sanem grew older Ayhan sneaking in after curfew,  talking with her dad all the way home after work, smelling her mother's amazing cooking or greeting Can into their home. It all flooded Sanem and her eyes began to water and her heart clenched. What she was about to do, she knew was the right thing for her but change was hard.

"Ok" Sanem said determined, "I have to do this for myself.

Sanem turned to Can and saw this look of concern that made her want to comfort him. She gripped his hand tighter and gave him a nod.

Can saw the tears glistening in her eyes and couldn't take her pain. He stroked Sanem's cheek and said, "I know but I hate that it's making you cry."

Sanem leaned furher into his and gave a sad smile, "It's not bad tears," Sanem said as she wiped away a tear with a smile. "I was just remembering all the times I walked through that door. I never realized how many memories I have just with that plane door."

Sanem laughed with more tears falling, "Is that crazy? I'm crying over a door?"

Can leaned over and gently wiped the tears on her cheeks. "No," Can said with soft eyes, "Your family home is filled with so much love it's felt even through a door. I felt it too. Every time I came to your house, I would have this warmness come through my body when I saw that door."

Sanem smiled and choked on her tears, "I love you."

"I love you too Birtanem." Can kissed the back of Sanem's hand, "Call me after."

Sanem nodded with a small smile, "I will."

Sanem took one last look out her window and left the car. Can watched with a clenched jaw as Sanem reached the doorway. He hoped she would be okay, but he was worried how Sanem's parents would react.

Sanem held on to the door knob tightly and took a deep breathe.

"This is it," Sanem said to herself, "This is what I need to do."

Thank you for reading - it is very short chapter as  I thought I would have more time to write and edit but it is holiday season for me.  I plan to put up another chapter next week hopefully by Tuesday October 8th.
