As the morning sun streamed through her window, casting a warm glow on her apartment,  Shana awoke with a jolt.  She’d had a restless night,  her dreams filled with images of  Shawn,  his warm smile,  his playful banter,  and the unexpected spark of attraction between them.

She couldn’t stop replaying their evening together,  their laughter,  their shared dreams,  their whispered secrets.  She was feeling a mix of emotions - excitement,  nervousness,  and a glimmer of hope.

She checked her phone,  hoping to see a message from Shawn,  perhaps a good morning text,  a confirmation of their connection,  a promise of more to come.  But there was nothing.

She tried to convince herself that it was too early,  that Shawn probably hadn’t woken up yet.  She tried to remind herself that this was all still new,  that there was no need to rush things.

But she couldn’t shake the feeling of anticipation,  the nervous flutter in her stomach,  the eager wait for a call,  a text,  any sign that he was thinking of her.

The hours seemed to stretch on,  the silence in her apartment amplifying the thrum of her anticipation.  Every ring of her phone,  every buzz of a notification,  sent a surge of excitement through her,  only to be met with disappointment.

The hours passed,  filled with anticipation for a call that never came.  Shana,  feeling restless and bored,  decided to head to the mall.  She figured a little retail therapy might be just what she needed to lift her spirits.

As she browsed the clothing racks,  she couldn't shake the feeling of being watched.  She turned,  and there she was,  Alex's new girlfriend,  Anna,  standing a few feet away,  a curious expression on her face.

“Shana,  right?”  Anna said,  offering a tentative smile.  “It’s…  nice to see you again.”

“Hi,  Anna,”  Shana replied,  feeling a little bit awkward.  “It’s…  nice to see you too.”

“So,”  Anna said,  her voice soft and friendly,  “I’ve been meaning to ask…  what’s it like working with Alex?  He doesn’t really talk much about his old colleagues.”

Shana,  taken aback by Anna’s question,  found herself caught off guard.  She realized,  with a touch of amusement,  that Anna was trying to gauge the situation,  to get a sense of her own place in Alex’s life.

"Well,  Alex is…  Alex,"  Shana said,  trying to remain neutral.  "He's a good guy,  but he's definitely got his quirks."

Anna laughed,  a warm,  genuine laugh that disarmed Shana.  “I can tell,”  she said,  her eyes twinkling with amusement.  “He’s got a certain…  je ne sais quoi.”

"He does,"  Shana agreed,  a playful smile forming on her lips.  "But don't let him fool you.  He can be a real handful."

The two women continued to chat for a few minutes,  their conversation light and easy.  Anna seemed genuinely interested in Shana,  her questions polite and thoughtful.  She even invited Shana to her upcoming birthday party,  a gesture that surprised Shana.

“Oh,  that's so sweet of you,”  Shana said,  trying to politely decline the invitation.  “But I’m probably going to be busy that night.”

Anna,  however,  didn’t seem to take no for an answer.  She smiled,  her eyes twinkling with a mischievous glint.

“Come on,  Shana,”  she said,  her voice a little more insistent.  “It’s a casual party.  Just friends and family.  I’d love for you to come.”

She paused for a moment,  a thoughtful expression on her face.  “Actually,”  she continued,  “You should bring that guy you were with the other day.  What was his name…  Shawn?  He seemed like a nice guy.  It’d be fun to have you both.”

Shana was caught off guard.  She hadn’t expected Anna to know about Shawn.  And the suggestion of a double date was a little…  surprising.

“Well,”  Shana said,  hesitantly,  “I don’t know…  He might be busy that night.”

“Well,  you can ask him,”  Anna said,  a playful smile on her lips.  “You know,  it’s always good to have your significant other by your side,  even if it’s just for a birthday party.”

Shana couldn’t help but feel a little bit intrigued.  Anna seemed to be genuinely inviting,  her tone sincere and her smile genuine.  She’d even gone so far as to mention Shawn,  suggesting a double date.

Shana found herself intrigued by Anna's invitation.  The thought of attending a party with Alex and his girlfriend,  a party where she could observe their dynamics and perhaps even clear the air about their past,  felt both intriguing and a little nerve-wracking.

“Okay,”  Shana said,  a hint of hesitation in her voice.  “I’ll come.  But I can’t promise that Shawn will be free.  I’ll have to check with him.”

Anna beamed,  her smile infectious.  “That’s great,”  she said,  offering Shana a warm hug.  “It’ll be nice to get to know you better.”

She then pulled out her phone.  “Here’s my number,”  she said,  typing it into Shana's phone.  “Text me when you’ve confirmed with Shawn.  And please,  don’t be a stranger.”

As Shana walked away from Anna,  her mind racing with thoughts and possibilities,  she realized that she was embarking on a journey of self-discovery.  She was facing her past,  embracing the present,  and opening herself up to new experiences.
