Y/n pov
The world I was born into was colorless, trapped in a black and white existence until one met their soulmate. The moment two destined souls locked eyes, the world would burst into vibrant hues. I had spent countless hours immersed in stories of others discovering their soulmates, longing for that transformative experience.
One of my own. That's all I wanted. I wished at every birthday and on every star for the universe to reveal my soulmate.
"Earth to y/n," Kate's voice called out, jolting me from my wistful reverie.
"Sorry," I mumbled, offering an apologetic glance.
"Are you still planning to meet up with him tonight?" she pressed.
We were seated in a cozy neighborhood coffee shop, Kate having requested this meetup to discuss the latest drama in her life. How could I refuse?
I sighed, lifting the warm mug to my lips. "Probably, but I can't shake this feeling he isn't the one."
The soothing sensation of the coffee did little to calm my nerves. I'd been conversing with this man for weeks, and the connection felt natural, almost too good to be true. What if he wasn't destined to be my soulmate after all?
"You can't think like that - what if he is?" Kate countered, tucking a stray lock of her vibrant red hair behind her ear.
She had a point, but the prospect of yet another disappointment stung. I'd waited my entire life for this, and it still hadn't happened.
"I just want to find the one - whoever that may be," I grumbled.
"You're not the only one, you know. Some people never get the chance to find their soulmate before they..." She trailed off, the implication hanging heavy in the air.
I choked on the sip of coffee, coughing to clear my throat. "That's a rather morbid thought," I managed between coughs, Kate's smirk only fueling my discomfort.
"Anyway, you'll have to let me know how it goes," she said, sliding out of the booth.
Glancing at the time, I realized I needed to hurry. "I will," I replied, gathering my things and heading for the door, exchanging a quick hug with Kate before we parted ways.
I had multiple meeting today with work and it would look so bad to be late.
I design clothing for multiple companies that supply big artists. This was my show so it's not like I would get fired- I own it.
Slipping into my office building I'm immediately greeted by nick.
"Your meeting is already here in the conference room and I have updated your afternoons schedule" he says grabbing my bag and coat from me.
"Thank you nick" I say as I briskly walk to the conference room.
Today was going to be a long day.
Countless of hours later I'm at my apartment getting ready for tonight. My nerves get the best of me and I can't stop my hands from shaking. I'm praying he is the one, yet I have this feeling deep in my gut that he isn't. Closing my eyes I take a few deep breaths to try and calm my nerves.
I can do this
It's just dinner
My phone rings and I quickly grab it.
Joe: hey see you soon 5:25 pm
I quickly reply back before setting my phone back on the counter.
