Levi's POV

I was in my office, sorting through endless stacks of paperwork, when the whispers started trickling in. Small, insignificant at first-just fragments of conversation caught in passing. But then it became impossible to ignore.

"Y/N and Oluo..."

"Did you see them in the training field? So obvious."

"I think they're a thing now."

I froze mid-signature, the pen hovering over the page. A thing?

The words irritated me more than they should have. With a sharp sigh, I set the pen down, leaned back in my chair, and pinched the bridge of my nose. It was probably nothing-just the usual gossip that spread like wildfire in this place.

But still. It gnawed at me.

When I heard Hange's obnoxiously loud laugh echoing down the hallway, I didn't even hesitate.

"Hange!" I barked, standing as they poked their head into my office.

"Levi! To what do I owe this pleasure?" Hange grinned, already up to something.

I folded my arms. "What's this about Y/N and Oluo?"

Their grin widened into something infuriatingly smug. "Oh, that. Yeah, I heard about it. They were apparently so close during training earlier. Almost romantic, don't you think?"

I scowled. "Tch. Romantic, my ass. There's no room for that kind of nonsense here."

Hange tilted their head, eyes gleaming with mischief. "Hmm, you seem... invested, Levi. Could it be that you're jealous?"

I stiffened, my face tightening. "Don't be ridiculous. I don't care what she does."

"Right," Hange said, dragging out the word. They leaned against the doorframe, staring at me like I was some experiment. "Then why are you asking me about it?"

I didn't dignify that with a response. Instead, I waved them off. "Get lost, Hange."

"Whatever you say, Captain Jealousy," they teased, practically skipping down the hall.

Grinding my teeth, I called out the next name on my list. "Oluo! My office. Now."

He arrived within moments, standing stiffly at attention like he always did.

"You wanted to see me, sir?"

I gestured for him to sit, but he stayed standing, looking nervous.

"What's this I'm hearing about you and Y/N?" I asked, my tone low and sharp.

Oluo blinked, visibly taken aback. "Sir?"

"You heard me," I said, leaning forward. "Whatever you're doing with her, cut it out. Dating within the squad is forbidden."

He frowned, confused. "But... she's not in your squad, sir."

"I know that," I snapped. "But dating is risky. You can't let personal distractions get in the way of your focus."

Oluo nodded, still looking unsure. "With all due respect, sir, nothing's going on between us. Y/N was just teasing me, as usual."

My jaw clenched, though I kept my expression unreadable.

"Good," I muttered, sitting back. "Because if I see any more of this behavior, there'll be consequences. That goes for you and anyone else."

"Understood, sir," Oluo said before I dismissed him.

As the door shut behind him, I stared at the papers on my desk, my thoughts drifting.

Why the hell does it even matter to me?

I told myself it was about discipline, about the rules. But somewhere deep-so far buried I hated acknowledging it-I knew it wasn't that simple.

The thought of her attention being anywhere but where it belonged-on the job, on survival, on the fight-it pissed me off.

But the thought of it being on someone else?

It infuriated me even more.
