GOING HOME WASN'T an option for Leanne. She found herself clinging to Sarah and John B's side her first couple hours home. That wasn't much of an issue considering the bulk of her backpack was gold. They were rich. As fuck. And they were on the path to full Kook. Their balance was over one million dollars.
With that amount of money, maybe they could make something for themselves. Their own Poguelandia. Their own home. No matter who wanted to get in the way. Leanne liked that. Peace. And luckily for JJ and Leanne, they were gonna buy back their land.
"80,001," Pope offered. He wanted to go by one dollar increments.
However, that didn't last long with the irrational, impulsive JJ. They were up 775,010 dollars in no time thanks to JJ. Leanne couldn't help, but run her hands over her face, annoyed with the boy.
"What the fuck, JJ," Leanne grumbled while JJ approached the auctioneer. That was almost all of their money. That place was gonna be their home.
Leanne had been given the job of making schedules and ensuring everyone knew their workload. She'd be the one to call in shipments and everyone else. It was probably her best job given the fact she didn't know much about cooking, and JJ took up the only job she could really do.
They all put the work in. The group never wanted to make something work more. So, as time went on, they were all really preoccupied with these things. Leanne was so set on making these things work, she had almost forgotten about Rafe. About how she had left things.
Love was strong, but was it that strong in the world they lived in? Kook and Pogue. But guess, what? They were Pogues living the Kook life making this thing for themselves.
This place was there's. Poguelandia 2.0. Bait and tackle, a marina, Cleo's kitchen, their garden, their home. This was them, all of them. They were living this life together.
Leanne helped Cleo set up their little shack, the best she could do.
"Guys," JJ called to them. Leanne looked out to her brother to find him standing there with his hat in his hands. "I think we did it. We're in business, baby! Oh my gosh, this feels good! Look at this. Look at that. Look at that. Lea, look!"
"I'm looking, J," Leanne called back, a smile on her face. She knew what he was referring to. Their home. This was theirs. All of it.
"Captain Maybank, at your service!" JJ said in a funny accent. "Now that has a ring to it! Nothing can stop a Pogue. Nothing! That's what I'm talking about!"
JJ was dancing, a full routine. Leanne chuckled at her brother and couldn't help but enjoy how happy he was. And when he kissed Kie. This was it.
The next day was their first day open for business. It was pretty slow as Leanne went over the schedule in front of her over and over. Until the hum of the boat engine caused all of them hop up.
