"Aomori-chan, you should stay here, okay? We don't know what that Baka-michi is thinking" Akkun patted my head."We'll take care of things from here, we don't want to involve you any further"
The three former Mizo Mid Five members then left, going after their boss to save him. 'Stupid Takemichi, just doing what he wants, huh?'
—And that is why I am alone wandering the streets, kind of a stupid choice, don't you think?
The sun hung high in the clear sky, bathing the streets in golden light as I wandered aimlessly. It should’ve felt warm, comforting even, but the unease in my chest didn’t let up. My footsteps echoed lightly against the pavement, the bustle of the city oddly quiet in this neighborhood.
Turning a corner, I froze. Leaning casually against the wall of a convenience store were them, the Haitani brothers. They were impossible to miss, even in broad daylight. Rindou was flicking through his phone with an air of disinterest, while Ran toyed with his signature cane, spinning it idly in his hand. Is this after they beaten up Mitsuya...? Damnit..!
Their eyes snapped to me at the same time, like predators catching sight of prey.
"Ah, look at this, Rindou" Ran drawled, a slow grin spreading across his face. “A little bird has wandered right into our sight"
Rindou looked up, raising an eyebrow. "In broad daylight, no less. Gotta admire the boldness"
I swallowed hard but didn’t back down. "I’m just passing through. Don’t let me disturb you"
Ran stepped forward, his tall frame casting a shadow even under the midday sun. "Passing through? That’s such a lazy excuse. You don’t look like someone who just passes through here"
"Yeah," Rindou chimed in, slipping his phone into his pocket and stepping closer. "This area isn’t exactly tourist-friendly, you know. Makes us wonder what someone like you is really doing here"
I squared my shoulders, forcing confidence into my voice. "It’s none of your business"
Ran laughed, the sound light but laced with menace. "Oh, everything that happens in these streets is our business. And you? You’re interesting enough to make us curious"
"Curious enough to want answers" Rindou added, his smirk sharp as he crossed his arms.
The sunlight felt hot on my skin as I glared at them. "I’m not here for trouble"
"Maybe not" Ran said with a mockingly sweet tone, tilting his head. "But trouble seems to have found you anyway. Isn’t that right, Rindou?"
"Sure looks like it, Ran"
They stood there, watching me like they were waiting for something. My fists clenched at my sides as I weighed my options.
Ran’s piercing gaze lingered on me for a moment longer before he chuckled, the sound softer this time. "Alright, alright. No need to get all stiff, little bird. Maybe we’re coming on too strong"
"Yeah, we wouldn’t want to scare you off" Rindou added, his tone more casual now, though his smirk never wavered.
I blinked, caught off guard by the sudden shift in their demeanor. "You’re... letting me go?"
Ran raised an eyebrow, leaning on his cane. "Letting you go? Nah, I’m just saying we don’t have to be enemies here. Who knows? Maybe you’re more interesting than we thought"
Rindou tilted his head. "So, what’s your deal? You don’t look like the kind of person who wanders into our streets for no reason"
I hesitated, unsure if telling them anything would be wise. But their unrelenting curiosity wasn’t something I could easily escape. "I was just... looking for someone"
