Stu sighed, his shoulders slumping. “Alright, alright. We’ll put Sidney on ice for now. But we gotta figure this out fast, man. If this guy knows as much as you think he does, we’re screwed.”

I nodded, my jaw tightening. “We’ll deal with him. And when we do, he’ll wish he’d never come near her.”

Stu gave me a crooked grin, the tension easing slightly. “That’s the Billy I know.”

I didn’t return the smile. My mind was spinning with possibilities, plans, contingencies. Whoever this guy was, he’d made a mistake coming after my sister. And when I found him, I’d make sure he regretted it.

But first, I needed to make sure Yn was safe.

I moved toward the edge of the kitchen, leaning against the doorway to watch her. She hadn’t moved much, her eyes still distant, her fingers clutching the edges of the blanket.

She looked so...breakable. And it killed me.

Sidney had always been the focus of my rage, the symbol of everything that had gone wrong in my life. Her mother had destroyed my family, torn my parents apart. And Yn had been caught in the middle, dragged through the mud by my father’s betrayal and my mother’s absence.

But now...now I wasn’t so sure. Sidney could wait. This bastard couldn’t.

I clenched my fists, the fury bubbling up again. Whoever he was, he’d picked the wrong person to mess with. I’d protect Yn, no matter what. And when the time came, I’d deal with him the way I dealt with everyone who got in my way.

Permanently.

I pushed away from the doorway, walking back into the kitchen to face Stu. His usual smirk had returned, though it didn’t quite reach his eyes. He leaned against the counter, his arms crossed, waiting for me to speak.

“We have to be smart about this,” I said, keeping my voice low. “If this guy’s watching us, he might already know we’re here. I don’t want to tip him off by making any stupid moves.”

Stu tilted his head, a spark of mischief lighting up his expression. “So, what? We just wait for him to come knocking? ‘Cause, man, I gotta tell ya, I’m not exactly in the mood to play hide-and-seek with some psycho.”

I shot him a glare. “We’re not waiting for him. But we can’t let Yn know what we’re doing. If she finds out about this, it’ll just make her more of a target.”

Stu’s eyes flicked toward the living room, a grin tugging at the corners of his mouth. “She’s tougher than she looks, Billy. You’re the one always treating her like she’s made of glass.”

My hands clenched into fists. “She’s my sister. You don’t know what it’s like to have to protect someone like that.”

Stu shrugged, unbothered by my tone. “Hey, I’m just saying. Maybe she’s stronger than you think.”

I didn’t bother responding. He didn’t get it. He never would. Yn wasn’t just my sister—she was the only family I had left that mattered. I couldn’t let her be dragged into this mess, not after everything we’d been through.

“Here’s what we’re gonna do,” I said, forcing my voice to stay calm. “We keep Yn here, keep her safe. We act like nothing’s wrong until we figure out who this guy is and what he wants.”

“And then?” Stu asked, his grin widening.

I met his gaze, my own expression hard as steel. “And then we take care of him. Permanently.”

Stu let out a low chuckle, his excitement palpable. “Man, you’re always so dramatic. But fine, I’m in. Just tell me when and where.”

I nodded, glancing back toward the living room. Yn had shifted on the couch, her head resting against the armrest. The blanket was still wrapped tightly around her, but her eyes were half-closed now, exhaustion finally overtaking her fear.

“I’ll tell you when I have a plan,” I said, turning back to Stu. “For now, just keep your mouth shut and don’t do anything stupid.”

Stu gave me a mock salute, his grin never faltering. “You got it, boss.”

I didn’t bother responding. My focus was already elsewhere, my mind racing with possibilities. Whoever this guy was, he’d made a mistake targeting my sister.

I didn’t know how long it would take to track him down, but I’d make sure he paid for what he’d done.

And once Yn was safe...then we could get back to Sidney.

But for now, she could wait.

I walked back into the living room, sitting down in the chair across from Yn. Her eyes fluttered open, and she gave me a tired smile.

“You okay?” I asked, my voice softer than before.

She nodded, her voice barely above a whisper. “I’m just...scared.”

“I know,” I said, leaning forward and resting my elbows on my knees. “But I’m not gonna let anything happen to you. You know that, right?”

She nodded again, her eyes glistening with unshed tears. “I know.”

I forced a small smile, even as the rage simmered beneath the surface. Whoever this guy was, he’d made a fatal mistake.

And soon, he’d find out just how far I was willing to go to protect my sister.
