Third Person Rainpaw's POV
"I'm not scared of dogs." Lionpaw muttered.
Rainpaw scoffed quietly, of course he should be afraid! Rolling her eyes, she padded away from him and Breezepaw, not wanting to be dragged into this nonsense.
Instead, she padded over to Jaypaw, "Your brother is about to pull some nonsense."
"Let him," Jaypaw replied with a shrug of his shoulders. "He can learn his lesson."
"Thought you would say that, that's why I didn't go to Hollypaw." Rainpaw agreed.
Sure enough, Lionpaw, Breezepaw and Hollypaw left the patrol, heading towards the barn.
After the three other apprentices had disappeared from her line of sight she shook her head disapprovingly before asking Jaypaw, "Do you want to tell them, or should I?"
"I'll do it," he sighed, increasing his speed to catch up to the warriors.
Rainpaw continued padding along behind the older warriors as she slyly listened in on the conversation happening among them.
"Oh no doubt they'll be causing trouble, you should have seen what troubles Hollypaw, Jaypaw and Lionpaw got themselves into when they were still in the nursery!" Squirrelflight purred lightheartedly, no doubt reminiscing about when the three apprentices had still been kits.
"Squirrelfli—"
Tawnypelt's fretting cut off Jaypaw's attempt at warning his mother about their wandering travel mates. "I hope they'll listen well, poor Snowbird. I left her alone with those three and she's due to have her own any day soon!"
Rainpaw could see Jaypaw getting even more frustrated as the two she-cats kept tittering on about kits.
"Squirrelflight!" Jaypaw finally managed to yowl, causing both Squirrelflight and Tawnypelt to halt both their talking and their walking. "Lionpaw, Hollypaw and Breezepaw have wandered off!"
The old kittypet named Purdy must have been eavesdropping, for he immediately told Brambleclaw and Crowfeather that they must have doubled back towards the barn.
"You all stay here, Purdy, Crowfeather and I will go fetch them." Brambleclaw ordered, bounding away after Purdy with Crowfeather at his heels.
Rainpaw rolled her eyes as she stretched out on the forest floor against a hedge to rest her paws. She eyed Jaypaw as he tasted the air and began to wander away. "Where are you going?"
"I'm going to find herbs in case any of them got hurt," Jaypaw answered in a matter-of-factly tone.
"Do you want help?" Rainpaw offered, tasting the air herself for any familiar herb scents. Only the faint scent of chervil just a little deeper into the trees made its presence clear to her.
Jaypaw shook his head, "No, I've got it."
"Alright," she murmured, tucking herself in a little closer to the roots of the hedge where the shade was the densest and protected her best from the slightly too-warm rays of sunlight.
Jaypaw prodded at her with a paw soon after she had dozed off by accident. "We're leaving now."
Rainpaw grunted and crawled out from under the hedge, stretching her sore limbs. She and Jaypaw silently treaded along next to each other, both too grumpy to talk.
When Brambleclaw finally announced that they would be resting for the night, Rainpaw felt ready to collapse.
"I'm going to go hunt, Jaypaw, do you have a preference in what you eat tonight?" She asked eagerly, ready to loosen up her tight muscles before going to sleep.
