Aparna smiled fondly as she ended the call with Samarthya.
She placed the phone on the kitchen counter and began kneading the dough with practiced ease.
Her heart warmed at the thought of her son's favorite breakfast-aloo-poori.
The smell of cumin and boiling potatoes filled the kitchen as she hummed an old melody, her movements graceful and steady.
Just as she was rolling out the first poori, her phone rang again.
With a sigh, she wiped her hands on her apron and glanced at the screen.
It was her husband, Ranjit.
"How many times will you call, Ranjit?" she said with mock exasperation as she answered. "I know that you and Nikhil have reached Mumbai."
Ranjit's laughter echoed through the receiver. "Hey, I was missing you, that's why I called."
Aparna rolled her eyes, her lips twitching into a smile. "What kind of memory is this of yours, that comes every two hours?"
"This is my love for you." Ranjit replied with a teasing lilt.
"Enough, enough." Aparna said, shaking her head though he couldn't see it. "Such love is not good for health."
Ranjit chuckled. "What are you doing?"
"I'm just making aloo-poori."
"Is Samarthya coming?"
"Yes." Aparna confirmed.
Ranjit let out a dramatic sigh. "So, finally that donkey remembered his mother! I'm upset. When I call, he says, 'Papa, I'm busy.' And when you call, he agrees instantly. Let me come back, I'll give him a lecture!"
Aparna burst out laughing at his rant.
It was no secret that both Nikhil and Samarthya favored their mother, and Ranjit never missed an opportunity to grumble about it.
"Alright, where is Nikhil?" Aparna asked, suppressing her laughter.
Ranjit scoffed. "He's sleeping, that good-for-nothing."
