Elizabeth was looking anxiously at her phone every couple minutes. Everyone at your work place knew who her mother was and how important the next few hours were for her and also for Elizabeth, so no one spoke anything at her behaviour, even her usually strict boss ignored it. Lizzy needed to know, she refreshed the page again and again looking at the red line beating the blue one, it would have to be a miracle for the blue to win. When the red line hit the 270 mark she muttered
"Oh fuck"
And almost run to her boss.
"I'm sorry to interfere sir, but i really need to go now. Family emergency"
"She lost didn't she?"
"Yes. I need to go. Please."
"Go but i didn't see anything if, anyone asked you run off"
"Yes sir. Thank you sir."
She runs off the building, almost falling off the stairs and get in her car starting the engine. On the way to the vice president office she probably broke some laws, but Lizzy didn't care, she needed to be there as soon as humanly possible.
Elizabeth gets in the building. The guards know her and know the situation, they were already informed, so they let her in without questioning. She runs to the office but gets stopped by the secretary. The woman I new so she does not know Lizzy or about Lizzy yet.
"Where do you think you're going Missy?"
"To the vice President office"
"And what makes you think you deserve to see her"
She was getting more and more annoyed
"I think the name on my ID says for itself"
She handed her ID to the secretary
"I am her daughter so i think this gives me the right to see her"
The secretary gave her a dirty look. Looking her up and down. Lizzy knew what would come after it.
"You don't look like her daughter and the ID is probably fake, I'm going to have to keep it"
"Oh for the love of God. The same play all the time. Yes my skin is almost black and my hair curly but it doesn't make Kamala Harris any less of my mother and right now she needs me because she just lost the fucking presidential election! I am adopted happy? If so let me the fuck in.*
The woman was stunned at her little outburst. She moved to the side letting her in.
"And what in God's mind made you all think that leaving my mother alone right now is a great idea?"
The woman was getting defensive
"She told us to!"
"Of course and you idiots listened. Give me my ID back, right now"
The secretary handed it to Liz and she roughly took it.
She opened the door to the office and looked around. At first she didn't see the woman sitting on the floor in the corner, but when she did, her heart clenched. The vice president looked defeated, nothing like the woman she knew and loved.
Elizabeth sat next to her on the floor. Kamala didn't hear her come in or simply didn't want to react at it. She sat here for a moment before she raised her head from her hands. In her eyes the usual spark were no where to be seen.
"Lizzy, you came"
"Of course Mum, as soon as i saw the results"
"I thought you wouldn't come"
