"Huh?" he muttered, his voice echoing in the unfamiliar silence.
"Uhhm..." he mumbled, looking around at the vibrant, surreal scenery.
"Where am I?"
Before he could make sense of his situation, a cheerful voice interrupted his thoughts.
"Let me introduce myself!" a girl exclaimed, her bright demeanor standing out against the odd atmosphere.
Subaru turned, his eyes meeting a young woman with a radiant smile. Her striking appearance was almost too perfect, as though crafted with care.
"My name is Mita!" she declared, tilting her head with an innocent charm.
Subaru blinked. "Mita...?"
Her smile deepened, but there was something about her presence that unsettled him.
"What do you mean?" Subaru asked, his tone wary. "Why do I feel like this place is so... real?"
Mita giggled. "Oh, that? It’s because I put in a lot of effort to bring you here! You, Subaru, are no longer in your world. Welcome to mine!"
Subaru stared, processing her words.
"And that's why you're here! Got it?" she finished with a proud flourish.
"...That was a confusing explanation," Subaru replied bluntly.
Mita pouted, her hands on her hips. "Well, you don’t have to think about it anymore! What’s important is that, from here on... we’ll live together!"
Subaru frowned. "I think I understand your situation, but just like you, I have my own needs... and people who’d care if I just disappeared. So here I am, begging you please bring me back home!"
Mita paused, her expression softening. "I guess I could help you with that... but, player..."
"Player?" Subaru echoed, confused.
Mita stepped closer, her tone suddenly gentle, almost vulnerable.
"No matter what happens... I love you," she said softly, her eyes locking onto his.
Subaru stiffened, his mind racing. "Sorry, my first and second places in my heart are already taken."
Mita's expression darkened, her smile faltering.
"Ahhh... what a shame," she said, her voice laced with an ominous edge. As the world around them grew darker, Subaru felt a chill run down his spine.
"After all that effort to bring you here..."
"Mita?" he whispered, sensing the shift in her demeanor.
"But then you suddenly mentioned liking another girl?" Her voice was eerily calm, almost playful.
"Huh " Subaru began, but before he could react, pain erupted in his stomach. He looked down to see a blade plunged into him, Mita’s hand gripping the hilt.
His knees buckled as he collapsed, the light fading from his eyes.
Suddenly, Subaru gasped, bolting upright.
"...""I’m back?" he muttered, looking around. "No... I think I just came back to before meeting that girl in the game world or-"
"Nice to meet you!"
Subaru froze, his heart sinking.
"Huh ?!"
"My name is Mita!"
"Damn it..." Subaru muttered under his breath, dread filling him as the cycle began again.
