Chapter 10: Saving Earth

When you try your best, but you don't succeed

We embraced each other, not dare letting go as we cried silently. Both of us now regretting our former actions and knowing about our true feelings for one another. No longer were our hearts consumed by rage and pain, but with forgiveness and love.

When you get what you want, but not what you need

I let out a shaky breath feeling my tears slow down as I slowly opened my eyes looking out into the void of space. My body felt exhausted and drained, but I knew we weren't done yet.

When you feel so tired, but you can't sleep

Stuck in reverse

I lifted my head gently to see his red irises staring back into mine as he gave me a small smile. He held my face, rubbing his thumb over my cheek tenderly as I leaned into his touch affectionately, feeling him wipe a tear.

And the tears come streaming down your face

My eyes closed as I tried to savor this moment. I had to accept, we had to accept our loss. Even though it'll continue to hurt us, we'll keep fighting and moving forward...for her.

When you lose something you can't replace

When you love someone, but it goes to waste

Our love for her will not ever fade. I'm going to ensure that her life, the time she spent with us means something.

I opened my eyes as I embraced him again, feeling his strong arms wrapped around my waist. I let out a sigh as I spoke the words I never knew I'd say but needed to "I love...you too." His ear flicked at that and in an instant he held me more tightly hearing a soft, happy chuckle coming from him. We were...both happy.

Sonic smiled at us feeling proud and happy that everything worked out for us. Just as he was about to say something he quickly turned his head and frowned hearing the machine in the far distance. "Guys, sorry to break your moment here but we still got a cannon to stop." Me and Shadow let go as we turned to him knowing he was right.

Sonic turned to me "Is there anyway we can shut that thing off?" I shook my head "No...we'll need to destroy it completely." Shadow held my shoulder seeming worried "Are you sure you're well enough to fight? You don't have to do this with us." I sighed as I took his hand "I need to do this. I'll be okay. Really."

I smiled while touching my stone that was on my forehead "We'll be okay.." Sonic gave us a thumbs up "Let's go then." We took off heading towards the cannon at high speed. My eyes widened seeing the cannon lighting up "We're too late! It's going to fire!" Sonic grunted "Follow me! I have a plan!"

Me and Shadow followed close behind him as we headed straight for the center. "Now, this might hurt a little!" He shouted as he raised his arms out with us doing the same as the cannon fired at us, but with the powers we had we were able to block it with a shield of our own. Shadow grunted "So this was your plan?!"

I did my best to help as I scoffed at him "How long are we supposed to hold this?!" Sonic was straining as he called out "Would someone mind shutting down the giant death ray?" We soon felt the beam move to the left slowly as we held our ground. "Keep...turning!" He yelled as we felt our arms straining to keep them up.
