You meet up with Colonel Packard on the dock before boarding the ship.

"Nice to have you back, Major." He greets me.

"Thank you, sir. It's nice to be back." You tell him.

He nods and gives you some more mission information and the plan explained in a file. You look over it while you get settled in your room. You read through everything you need to know for the mission. Well, everything they're telling you at least, something still feels off. You change into your military pants and elbow length top, before going to the brief meeting.

When you walk inside, you immediately see your brother. He saved a seat for you in front of him. He said he would when you went to say hi to him earlier, not long since you needed to through the mission details, but you couldn't wait to see him. It's been two months since you got off on leave.

The ships horns in the background. You ruffle Slivko hair when you pass him to sit in your saved spot beside Chapman. Since you arrived as one of the last one, the meeting starts almost immediately when you sit down.

"Hello and welcome." A man starts talking. "I'm Landsat field supervisor, Viktor Nieves. This is my colleague Steve Woodward, our data rangler."

He points to one of the scientists, who nods.

"Our expedition takes us to a place every nautical trade route known to man has avoided for centuries. As our satellite shows, the island is surrounded by a perpetual storm system. Allowing it to remain hidden from the outside world. But with Colonel Packard's helicopter transport, we will be the first to break through to the other side. We're all so pleased to be joined for the first time, by the resource exploration team led by Mr. Randa and accompanied by biologist Miss San and geologist Mr. Brooks. Our focus will be on the island surface, theirs what lies beneath. Mr. Brooks."

The geologist walks up to the front while starting to talk.

"Simple really. We will use explosives to shake the earth to create vibrations, helping us map to the subsurface of the island. We will fly over the south shore and then strategically drop seismic charges that will help us understand the density of the earth."

You internally cringe at the thought.

"You're dropping bombs?" A familiar voice from behind upu suddenly cuts in, making everyone look back at him, including you.

You frown as you recognise the man from the bar the other night. You and a friend was at out and you met James Conrad. He was originally there with some friends celebrating their engagement. His former military buddy got engaged to Mason Weaver.

Someone arrived, wanting to talk to James so he had to excuse himself to find out what the two men wanted. Before he was done, you had to take your drunk friend home. Outside waiting for a taxi, you called Slivko. He told you Packard wanted to speak with you. Your Colonel then told you he wanted you on this mission.

James is standing beside a woman you faintly remember to have seen at the bar too. When he agreed to this exploration mission and Mason found out, she got herself on it too. At first James argued against it, but it's not easy to change her mind. Her fiancé asked James to keep an eye out for her, which he agreed to.

James makes eye contact with you and he too looks just as surprised as you. Though you both try to hide it, so you don't think anyone else noticed.

"Uh, scientific instruments." Brooks answers him.

"You hear that boys? We're scientists now!" Slivko chuckles.

"You guys are not scientists." Woodward states, in annoyance.

Nieves continues. "We'll then land to make base camp for ground extortions, led by Captain James Conrad."

He motions his head toward James. Then he turns to you.

"Major Yn Slivko." Nieves nods and you get off your chair and walk up front.

"Alright." You turn to the crowd. "Once on the island, the storms interference will block all radio contact with the ship. That means we'll be by ourselves." The picture turns to a map.

"Three days later, refuel-team will meet us here on the north end of the island." You point to the map. Turning back to the crowd with a serious expression, you glance around them to make sure you have everyone's attention. "And that might be our only safe departure window for an unknown period of time.. So, tip for everybody.. Don't miss it, please."

You make eye contact with as many as possible, to show how important this is. Your eyes land on Slivko and with the small firm nod, you know that he understands the seriousness now with the way he looks at you, not like his sister but as his Major.

Soon enough the meeting is over and we all move out the small room you had all crouched yourselves into.

...

You decide to look around the ship. Wandering, you end up in the cargo hold. You take a look at all the boxes, seeing all kinds of weapons and then get to the explosives. You stop and just stare, squinting your eyes since it's dark, thinking. Then you see James, leaning on a crate.

"What are you doing here?" You ask him.

He just looks at you with an unreadable expression for a few seconds before shifting slightly in his spot as if waking himself up from wherever his thoughts had taken him. James is about to speak when Mason appears. She was also looking around in curiosity.

"Why does a geological mapping mission need explosives?" Mason gestures to the boxes.

James was surprised to see you today, here for this mission, and especially as a soldier. It's not every day you see a female soldier in these times. You hadn't gotten past small talk at the bar the other night. When he was done talking with Randa and Brooks, he was disappointed you were gone. After talking with you, he really hoped to spend more time with you. However, he wasn't imagining it in this way.

"You weren't listening in class, seismic charges for the geological serving." You tell them.

"Aha, and you believe that?" Mason asks and James looks at you, also curious.

You look at them for a few seconds, thinking about what to say, before answering. "I didn't say that."

  "So, Major, huh?" James says.

"Yeah.. Captain, huh?" You throw back and he chuckles.

  "Decommissioned." He corrects.

You frown slightly. "Hm, you didn't strike me as a mercenary."

"And you didn't strike me as a soldier." He smiles.

You look down and glance at the exit when you hear someone outside on deck. "We should go, we're not really supposed to be here."
