~*~Ryan's P.O.V.~*~
Rosevalley justice centre, the juvenile detention centre where Becca was being held, was on the outskirts of town in a quiet and green area. The politicians believed that young people need closeness to nature in order to recover and develop for the better.
It was a small centre since Rosevalley isn't that big, but neighbouring towns often sent their youngsters there as well.
I reached for a brochure, flipping through it carefully as we sat there in the waiting room to meet Becca. Apparently, they partnered with the local animal shelter and let the youngsters care for and interact with the animals in an effort to give them empathy and a chance to develop their sense of responsibility.
The centre also let the teens participate in various activities such as music, crafts, sports and cooking to prepare them for the future outside the centre. It was part of their rehabilitation program to find a hobby or interest that each inmate would enjoy.
"We have Reed to thank once again for how he managed to talk them into letting all four of us meet Becca together." I turned to mom who was clutching her purse tightly.
Minors would usually be allowed a maximum of two visitors at a time, but Reed pulled in some strings yet again to let us all come at once.
"He's awesome," I stated.
"To think it's already been several months since she went here," she continued. "And finally, I'll get to hold my baby in my arms again." I let a hand rest over my belly when I heard the tone in mom's voice. Such maternal feelings...
"If she's not as grumpy now as last time I facetimed with her," I mumbled.
"Ryan honey, you know that what she's going through is tough for her."
"I know."
"I hope she liked the album I sent her for Christmas," Vendela said. "I think it's a good band to look up to for her."
"I'm sure she does," dad said as he took a deep breath. We all looked up as a guard finally came up to us.
"Good day ladies and gentlemen, I assume you are Becca Moe's family?"
"Yes," dad said. "We've booked a visit with her."
"Yes, and soon you'll get to meet your daughter. But first you must all be searched and hand in your bags and phones. It is part of the security procedures we have here at the centre."
We had to accompany her into a smaller room where another guard was waiting for us to receive all our belongings. Part of me didn't want to give up the phone since it was my direct link to Reed, but I put it in the grey plastic box carefully. They searched us one at a time, from head to toe. When they came to me and I pulled up my shirt dad's gaze fell on my belly and I tensed up, blushing. Not that I was THAT big, like Klara, but it was still visible since I've always been so slim. But dad just gave me a smile.
"You've put on a few pounds. That's good, son."
"Oh, um; yes!" I burst, pulling down my shirt again. "You know, healthier food in larger quantities."
"Yes, because in the past you only ate junk food at irregular times."
"Adam's food is to die for, seriously."
"The stew he made on your hare looked tasty," mom said. "That you are such a good hunter."
"I guess it was most due to luck," I winked.
"If you follow me, I'll show you to the visiting room," the guard said when we were all ready to go.
The centre had a large visitor's hall with several tables but also some smaller private rooms for special occasions and it was in one of those that we would meet Becca. Reed had managed to arrange it for us.
