After we've finished breakfast and Luke has left I make my way back home. I wish I could spend the day with him, but there are a bunch of things I've got to do today, and it's best if he isn't with me.
First objective of the day (one I don't particularly want to do, but know I will have to anyway): explain to my mother who Luke is and why we both rushed out of the house this morning.
Second: find out why the 5 Seconds of Summer boys lost their contract with the record company.
Third: fix whatever caused objective two.
And (possibly) forth: destroy the company if they don't resign the boys.
I smile mischievously to myself as I walk along the side of the road on my way home. I'm sure if there were people nearby I'd have gained many concerned looks.
But I speak (well think) too soon. A door from one of the houses in this neighbourhood opens, and my smile instantly drops as I jump behind a nearby hedge.
A tanned boy with dark hair steps outside and walks down the driveway to the postbox. My eyes widen at the sight of him dressed in only boxers and a t-shirt.
I stay crouched behind the hedge and watch him like a creep as he collects his mail and turns to go back inside.
As he turns he pushes his hair back with his hand. I jump up and call his name as soon as I recognise him.
"Calum!" He turns to look at me with one eyebrow raised.
I walk over to where he's standing and try to suppress a giggle from the look on his face of seeing me appear out of nowhere.
"Uh, hey Reegan," he says with an embarrassed tone of voice.
"Hi," I say cheerily, in hopes of embarrassing him further (because I'm such a cruel person in that way).
"What-what are you doing here?" He asks me suspiciously. I laugh at him again.
"Oh, you know," I say casually with a flick of my wrist. "Just prowling the streets and hiding behind hedges." I toss my hair over my shoulder and wait for a reply.
Calum just stands there, unsure of what to say. I laugh at him (yet again), and tell him the real reason I'm here.
"I'm kidding," I say through a laugh. "I'm actually on my way home after going out for breakfast with Luke, and when I saw your door open I panicked and hid."
"-of course I didn't know it was your house at first," I decide to add to avoid sounding creepy.
He looks at me for a moment, and I wait for him to process everything I've just said. He smiles and shakes his head once he's got it, but stays silent. I wonder what's gotten into him, but then I realise that it's probably because he's standing in front of me with no pants on.
I press my lips together and turn my eyes to the road.
"I better be going," I say through a smile.
"Yeah..." He trails.
"See ya round, Cal!" I wave as I walk off.
I hear him mutter a quick goodbye and walk back inside. I laugh to myself on the walk back. I'm in a surprisingly good mood today for some reason.
When I arrive home I'm met (with no surprise) by my mother sitting at the table waiting for me.
"Reegan Victoria Mitchell," she glares at me and my good mood immediately disappears. "What on earth were you doing this morning, running out of the house with a boy?"
"Mum," I say gently, trying to answer her, but she continues to talk over me.
"Who even is he? I've never met this boy, and he was in. Our. House. Overnight," she keeps emphasising the word 'boy' as if its poisonous.
"He's," I try again, but to no avail.
"In. Our. House," She repeats. "Overnight. With you! Reegan Victoria Mitchell you better not have done anything with that boy or so help me!"
I cringe every time she uses my full name.
"What was he doing here? Why didn't you ask me first? And how dare you leave this morning without saying anything." She lets out a growl.
"What do you have to say for yourself?!" She just about yells.
I take a deep breath in an attempt to regain some tolerance before I start explaining what happened last night.
I tell her who he is, and about his band. I tell her what happened and the state he was in when he showed up here. She sits impatiently as I speak, but listens to every word.
I then tell her that we didn't do anything, and that we only ran out so quickly earlier to avoid having to deal with what was happening now.
She sighs when I finish, shaking her head and taking it all in.
"I'm sorry," I say softly with my eyes trained on the floor.
"No, Reegan, I'm sorry," she says in a calmer manner. "I should have trusted you, and I certainly shouldn't have gone off at you like that."
She has a look in her eyes that seems almost sad. I tell her it's okay, and that I'm heading out again.
She stays silent, nodding her head slightly and I leave the house again to make my way to the recording studio.
Upon arrival I'm greeted by the oh-so-friendly (note my sarcasm) Ange at the front desk. She rolls her eyes at my presence and asks what I'm here for.
"I'd like to speak to whoever unsigned 5 Seconds of Summer," I say in a fake sweet voice.
She gives me a fake smile in return, before pressing a button behind her desk that makes a buzzing sound.
"He's on his way," she deadpans. Just as she does a tall, burly guy in a suit, so tight fitting it seems as if the buttons on his shirt are about to explode, walks down the corridor.
I gulp at the sight of him.
"Someone wanted to speak with me," he says in a deep, gravelly voice.
My reply comes out in a whisper. "Me."
He looks down to where I stand, clearly knowing that I find him intimidating.
"You'd better not waste my time," he says before turning and motioning for me to follow him to an office.
