Calum walks me home when we get off the bus at my stop. When we arrive home my mum has left a note on the kitchen counter saying she and dad have gone out for lunch.
I don't blame them: it is Sunday after all.
We stand in the kitchen in silence, neither of us knowing what to do or say, until Calum finally speaks up.
"I think we'd better tell the others," he says as he pulls out his phone and dials a number.
Calum speaks to whoever is on the other end of the line. I stand watching him awkwardly to begin with, but soon decide to go to the fridge to get us some drinks.
I set a glass in front of Cal and he mouths a silent 'thank you' as I take a sip of mine.
"Mikey reckons we should head out to Darling Harbour and do some busking as a kinda celebration," he turns and says to me once he's hung up the phone.
I nod my head at him. "Sounds good."
"You should do Luke while I call Ash," he says absentmindedly as he types in the next number. I press my lips together and blush, wondering if he realises how he worded that sentence.
I find my phone and call Luke like he suggested, telling him about my deal with the company and the plan of going busking.
I can practically hear him smiling on the other end as he thanks me and hangs up the phone. Hearing him sound so happy has made me start smiling like an idiot as well.
"What's got you so smiley, huh?" Calum teases when we both hang up and turn to look at each other.
"Nothing," I brush him off. Because how do I explain to him that just hearing Luke sound happy about something is enough to set my insides alight and make me feel brighter than the sun itself.
"Come on then," he says and we both exit the house and go back to the bus stop.
The whole ride there I can't help smiling and fidgeting nervously. I don't know why but today I just can't wait to see Luke. I've come to the conclusion that his happiness has become something that I crave, and perhaps that makes me selfish and greedy.
But knowing that doesn't lessen my craving.
After stopping off at Calum's house, so he can grab his guitar, boarding and leaving many buses, we finally get to Darling Harbour.
Calum is in a constant change between texting the other three boys, talking to me, looking for our destination, and avoiding running into people. I don't know how he manages to do it, but before too long we've met up with Luke, Mikey and Ash beside a spiralling water feature.
The other three were here first and have already set up all of their gear, including putting one of their guitar cases open in front of them for people to drop coins.
I'm pulled into a friendly hug from Michael and Ashton, but when I get to Luke he seems to linger for just a bit longer. I think I hear someone giggling behind me, but I brush it off and pretend I didn't hear anything.
Mikey thanks me over and over again while he tunes his guitar, only stopping when Calum tells him to shut up. And even then he mouths a thanks to me one more time and gives me a grin.
Three songs that I've never heard of start and finish, the crowd surrounding them grows and shrinks, and still I stay standing and watching them play. It's on the fourth song that Luke suggests I sing with him.
"I really can't sing at all," I try telling him, but when he pouts I just can't resist it any more. He smiles at me and waits for me to start singing.
I screech out a few lines before covering my mouth and shaking my head in shame.
"I told you I couldn't sing," I say sheepishly as Luke grimaces.
"It's all good," he tries to cheer me up but there's still something weird floating in the atmosphere around us.
I try laughing to settle the air. "I'll just go back to listening, that's what I'm best at anyway."
I slowly begin zoning out. The sound of 5 Seconds of Summer stays in my mind, but my eyes are fixated on the little kids playing in the water feature.
I'm snapped back to reality when I hear them start to play the opening notes of a song I know to well.
I wait for Luke to sing the first verse, and then the chorus; but as soon as the rapping starts I take a step forwards into their little circle.
The words flow from my mouth so effortlessly that I don't even have to think of what comes next. I've heard this song so many times I could rap it in my sleep.
The audience starts cheering, and throwing in money like crazy. I start dancing around and pretending to be a gangster. Luke stares at me wide eyed. Michael stifles a laugh. Ashton smiles and pulls faces at me whenever I look towards him. Calum seems lost in another words and just keeps on playing.
When the rap finishes the audience applauds and I take a bow and go back to my spot as the boys finish the song.
"I didn't know you could rap," Mikey says when they finish.
"Honestly," I laugh. "Neither did I."
He laughs with me along with a few people in the surrounding crowd.
After one more song Ashton announces that they were finished for the day and thanked everyone for watching.
"You don't normally thank people who watch you busk," I tease him as he starts picking up the money and putting it in a large coin bag.
"Well I do!" He argues back. "They were lovely enough to listen to Luke's bad singing for so long, they deserve at least a little thank you."
"Hey!" Luke calls over his shoulder and Ashton and Mikey laugh in return. Even I smile as I shake my head.
"Come on then, Rap Star," Mikey says while flinging an arm around my shoulders. "Let's go get something to eat."
The rest of the boys nod, and with that we make our way to the nearest cafe; stopping every minute to take pictures with fans or give autographs.
Well, at least Luke, Calum, Ashton and Michael did. Not me.
A/n: Picture is of Darling Harbour ayyyy.
I don't really have anything to say today so this authors note is really short wow.
