The warm glow of the morning sun pierced through the luxurious office windows of the Kim Mansion. Taehyung sat behind the mahogany desk, his sharp features hardened, his eyes cold as they scanned the document in front of him. The room was silent except for the faint scratching of his pen against the paper. His mind, however, was anything but calm.

He put the pen down, leaning back in his chair, and stared at the twin bracelet on his wrist. Jennie's laughter echoed in his mind, the faint memory of her calling him "Winter Bear" warming the cold void within him for a fleeting moment. But the thought of her wasn’t a comfort; it was a knife, twisting deeper with every memory. She was back in South Korea. Yet, it felt as though an unspoken chasm had formed between them.

The photo frame of them, once proudly displayed on his nightstand, was now tucked away in his drawer. He couldn't bear to look at it. Not after all these years. Not after what he'd become.

A knock at the door pulled him from his thoughts. He straightened in his chair, his expression unreadable as Jennie's father entered the room.

"Taehyung, the preparations for the new shipment need to be finalized. The underworld's eyes are on us more than ever," Jennie's father said, his voice authoritative.

"Understood," Taehyung replied curtly, rising to his feet.

But Jennie's father didn't leave. His gaze softened as he studied the young man who had grown into a formidable force under his wing. "She's changed, you know. Jennie. She's not the same little girl you remember."

Taehyung's jaw tightened, but he remained silent.

"Her eyes hold the same fire, but there's a depth now, a power. She’s the heir I always knew she would become," the older man continued.

"Good for her," Taehyung said, his voice devoid of emotion. But inside, a storm raged.

Jennie's father sighed, placing a hand on Taehyung's shoulder. "She's back to claim her place. And she'll need you by her side, as always."

Taehyung nodded, the weight of those words pressing down on him. He had been by her side once. But now? Now, there were walls between them. Walls he wasn't sure could ever be broken.

Meanwhile, at Jennie’s Temporary Residence

Jennie stood on the balcony, her gaze fixed on the sprawling cityscape of Seoul. The city had changed, grown brighter and faster. But her heart felt the same—heavy with memories of a time long gone.

"Miss Jennie," her assistant called, stepping onto the balcony. "Your meeting with the council is in an hour. Shall I prepare the car?"

Jennie turned, her lips curving into a polite smile. "Yes, thank you."

As the assistant left, Jennie sighed, clutching the notebook she had brought with her from London. It was filled with scribbled thoughts, memories, and the occasional drawing—things she had written whenever she missed Taehyung. Her fingers grazed over a specific page, the faint sketch of a bear peeking through her touch.

Her heart ached at the thought of him. He had always been a constant in her life, her anchor in the chaotic world they lived in. But now? She wasn’t sure who he had become.

"Winter Bear," she whispered to herself, the name bringing both warmth and sorrow.

Later That Night

Taehyung stood on the rooftop of a towering building, his hands shoved into the pockets of his tailored coat. The city lights stretched endlessly before him, a stark reminder of the world he now controlled.

He heard footsteps behind him but didn’t turn.

"It’s cold," came Jennie’s familiar voice, soft but filled with unspoken weight.

Taehyung’s shoulders stiffened, but he didn’t move. "You should be inside."

"I could say the same to you," she replied, stepping closer. She stood beside him, the wind tugging at her hair.

Silence enveloped them, heavy with all the words they couldn’t say.

"You’ve changed," Jennie said finally, her voice barely above a whisper.

"So have you," Taehyung replied, his tone colder than he intended.

Jennie turned to face him, searching his face for something, anything. "Why do you keep shutting me out, Taehyung?"

He met her gaze, his eyes hard. "Because the boy you knew is gone, Jennie. And I’m not sure you’d like the man standing in front of you now."

Jennie’s heart clenched, but she refused to back down. "I don’t believe that. I see him, Taehyung. He’s still there, beneath all the walls you’ve built."

Taehyung looked away, his jaw clenching. "You shouldn’t waste your time trying to find him."

Jennie stepped closer, her voice firm yet gentle. "And you shouldn’t waste yours trying to hide him."

For a moment, their gazes locked, the unspoken bond between them as strong as ever. But before either could say more, Taehyung turned and walked away, leaving Jennie standing alone on the rooftop, her heart heavier than ever.

A Dangerous Game Begins

In the shadows of the underworld, Irene smiled to herself as she studied the documents laid out before her. The pieces were falling into place, just as her father had planned. Jennie's return was a complication, but not one she couldn’t handle.

She picked up her phone, dialing a familiar number.

"Everything is set," she said smoothly. "It’s time to move forward."

Her lips curled into a smirk as she ended the call. Soon, the game would begin in earnest. And neither Taehyung nor Jennie would see the trap until it was too late.
