I was exhausted—more than I had ever been in my life. My body felt heavy, my eyelids barely able to stay open, but the moment the door creaked and Taehyung stepped inside, I forced myself to look at him.

He didn’t speak right away. He just stood there, his dark eyes scanning me, taking in every detail as if making sure I was still breathing, still here. I wanted to tell him I was fine, but my voice felt weak. Still, I tried.

“Tae…” My throat was dry, my voice barely more than a whisper.

His gaze flickered to mine. “You okay?”

There was something in his voice—something unspoken, something only I would notice. It wasn’t just a question. It was a demand, a quiet plea for reassurance. I gave him a small, tired nod.

He exhaled through his nose, not quite a sigh, but close. His fingers found the edge of my blanket, smoothing it over me in an absent, careful motion. He didn’t have to say it, but I knew—he had been worried.

“You should rest,” he murmured.

I tried to smile, though it barely curled at the corners of my lips. “You went to see her?”

I expected him to say yes. Expected him to tell me how she looked, how she felt in his arms. But he didn’t answer right away. Instead, his fingers stilled against the fabric.

“She can wait,” he said finally.

Something in my chest ached—not in pain, but in something warmer, something deeper. Everyone outside was waiting for him, waiting to see our daughter, waiting to celebrate. But he was here.

For me.

I was too tired to say anything more, but I didn’t need to. I let my gaze linger on him, let my eyes tell him everything I didn’t have the strength to put into words.

And when he sat beside me, silent but steady, I knew—this was enough.

Taehyung's lips pressed gently against my forehead, warm and lingering for just a second longer than usual. His voice, steady and low, carried only for me to hear.

"You did well."

It wasn’t just praise. It was acknowledgment, reassurance, something deeper that only he and I could understand. My throat felt tight, emotions swelling, but before I could say anything, the door opened, and his mother stepped inside.

And in her arms—our daughter.

I forgot everything else. The exhaustion, the lingering pain, the haze of medication—I forgot it all the moment I saw her tiny form wrapped in soft pink fabric.

Taehyung stood up, slowly, like he was grounding himself before taking the step forward. He didn’t rush, didn’t snatch her away in excitement like I thought he might. Instead, he reached out with both hands, steady, reverent, as if he were holding something far too precious for this world.

The moment she settled into his arms, everything changed.
