The night only got messier.

Drinks kept flowing, laughter kept getting louder, and everyone was just drunk enough to stop giving a fuck.

At one point, Finneas stood on the table, dramatically reenacting Jonathan's failed ski jump, while Billie laughed so hard she spilled half her drink down my arm.

Meanwhile, Nigel and Chris were deep in an argument, slurring their words as they gestured wildly over the table.

"I'm just saying—" Nigel hiccuped, gripping Chris's shoulder for balance, "if you put a fucking baguette in the freezer, it's technically a weapon."

"Nigel, shut the fuck up," Jonathan groaned, rubbing his temples.

"No, no, no—listen, bro," Chris nodded aggressively, fully backing Nigel's nonsense. "That shit is hard as fuck."

"Thank you!" Nigel threw his hands up, as if that proved his point.

Billie leaned over, whispering conspiratorially in my ear.

"Wanna bet how long until one of them tries to fight with an actual baguette?"

I snorted. "Five euros says Chris is the first to swing."

Billie grinned, holding out her pinky.

"Deal."

We shook on it, laughing into our drinks, before the night spiraled even further into chaos.

And then, of course—

I ran my mouth too much.

"For a big guy, you have surprisingly weak arms, Nigel," I smirked, tipping back my drink.

Nigel slowly turned to me, eyes narrowing. "Oh, you wanna do this again?"

"What can I say? You're predictable," I grinned.

Nigel cracked his knuckles. "Alright, Jules, you asked for it."

Before I could run, he had already grabbed me, hoisted me over his shoulder, and was marching toward the door.

"Nigel, don't!!—"

Too late.

He tossed me into the snow

"That's it," I muttered, sitting up, drenched and shivering. "I'm filing a lawsuit."

Nigel cackled, already turning back inside.

I stumbled back inside, soaked and freezing, and Billie immediately wrapped herself around me, tucking me into her warmth.

"Poor baby," she murmured, pressing a warm kiss to my forehead.

I sagged into her, my body finally thawing in her arms.

And then, before I could enjoy it too much—

"I gotta go to the bathroom," I whispered.

She hummed, nose brushing against my cheek. "Don't be long, baby."

I gave her waist a quick squeeze, pulling away and heading for the hallway.

Still laughing softly to myself.

Still buzzing with warmth from Billie's touch, from the alcohol, from the high of the night.

I was standing at the sink, about to blow my nose, when—

The door swung open.

I glanced up in the mirror.

And there she was.
