As soon as you woke up to your alarm, you grabbed your phone–remembering the message that you received right before falling asleep. The only thing that greeted you was a blank screen.
'I guess I took too long to respond, she must have fallen asleep.'
You shrugged it off and decided to ask her about it at school instead–continuing with your morning routine.

While you were walking to your classroom, you were mindlessly skipping through the stories of your old friends who were posting all about the first day of school. It made you feel extremely left out and lonely.
You quickly shut off your phone to stop yourself from sinking deeper in the rabbit hole that you created for yourself. However as you looked up, you came crashing into something hard, causing you to drop your phone.
"Oh Shit!" You groaned, not hesitating to immediately crouch and pick up your phone. Turning it over, you checked for any cracks or breaks on it–letting out a small sigh of relief when you saw none. Looking up to see who you bumped in, your heart jumped when you saw him.
It was Rin. He had a neutral look on his face as he basically towered over you. To you, it felt strangely condescending. It made you feel small.
Like a cat that springs up after being surprised, you wasted no time jumping back to your normal height. It hurt you to say it, considering your past encounter, but you were actually a decent human being who had manners.
"Sorry for bumping into you, I got distracted." You mumbled. Then Rin did something that touched your nerves. He let out a scoff and walked past you as if you were nothing. That look in his eyes. It infuriated you.
You whipped around and stared at his retreating figure–holding back the urge to just roundhouse him in the middle of the hallway.
'And where is he even going? The classroom is the opposite way.'
You knew better than to care and that you should just mind your own business, so you turned back around to head towards the classroom.
Entering the classroom, you noticed that Hina was sitting in her seat as she looked intently at something on her phone. However, it seems as if she had human radar, because the moment you stepped inside the class, her head lifted to look at you.
'Jeez. Does everybody here have some sixth sense for when people just glance their way for a moment..'
She waves you over with a wide grin on her face. As you made your way towards her desk, you suddenly remembered the text that she sent you–deciding to talk to her about it in person. The moment you were within vicinity, her inviting warmth immediately engulfed you.
"Hi Y/N! Good morning!"
"Good morning Hina."
"How was your sleep?"
"Uh–Actually, about your message..."
"Ah! I'm sorry if that came off as weird or overbearing. I know you're new and that it might seem like I'm suspicious."
"Erm, actually no, I did not think about it like that at all." You awkwardly rubbed the nape of your neck as you attempted to formulate your thoughts into words.
"Just why me?"
There was silence for a short while and Hina looked at you with this strange expression. She then clasped your hands in her own and stared you straight into your eyes.
"Y/n, I'm gonna be honest with you and let you know it's not because of pity. I know what it's like to enter a new school, late into the year, no friends. So I just want to make you feel like you belong and create a place for you, even for just a year. Let's be best friends for the rest of the year, kay?"
