Chapter Five: A New Nightmare Unfolds {Continue}

Debris and dust exploded outward, shaking the ground beneath them.

Y/n stumbled but caught herself. She turned for a brief second-if they had gone left, they would have been buried alive.

This game is scripted. It wants to kill us.

But she didn't have time to dwell on that. Because-

The clicking sound multiplied.

Y/n's blood ran cold.

More.

More of them.

The others must have heard it too, because the panic in their footsteps increased.

"THERE'S MORE THAN ONE?!" Hoseok shouted, voice laced with disbelief.

Click. Click. Click. Click. Click.

Shadows shifted in the tunnel ahead.

And then she saw them.

Five. Maybe six. Maybe more. Their hollow sockets turned toward them, their jagged grins widening as if thrilled to welcome them.

They had just escaped one monster, only to run straight into a pack of them.

Y/n's stomach twisted. This wasn't in the fanfiction.

This wasn't supposed to happen.

Something had changed.

This game was adapting.

It was making sure they wouldn't make it to the end.

"TURN AROUND!" she yelled, panic creeping into her voice.

But it was too late.

The creatures surged forward, sprinting toward them with terrifying speed.

Jungkook cursed under his breath. "WE CAN'T OUTRUN THEM!"

Y/n's mind spun.

There had to be something-anything-they could use to survive.

Her fingers curled into fists.

Think, Y/n. Think.

She scanned the tunnel. The walls. The ceiling. The tracks-

And then she saw it.

An old maintenance ladder, barely visible in the dim light, leading up to a narrow ledge.

It wasn't much. But it was something.

"UP THERE!" she shouted, pointing.

Namjoon was the first to react, immediately pushing Jungkook toward it. "CLIMB!"

Jungkook hesitated only a second before leaping for the ladder, gripping the rusted rungs tightly as he pulled himself up.

"FASTER!" Y/n urged.

The creatures were almost on them.

Yoongi grabbed onto the ladder next, Seokjin right behind him. Jimin was shaking as he hoisted himself up, while Taehyung shoved Hoseok upward before following himself.

Namjoon turned to Y/n.

"GO!" he ordered.

Y/n didn't argue. She jumped onto the ladder, climbing as fast as she could.

The metal groaned under their combined weight.

Below, the creatures screeched, their hands clawing at the air, trying to reach them.

Jungkook reached the ledge first, pulling himself up. He turned immediately, reaching for the others.

One by one, they climbed onto the ledge-until only Y/n and Namjoon remained on the ladder.
