Y/n sucked in a sharp breath, scanning the area. The maze was changing. It was no longer just mirror and corridors. The very space around them was shifting, warping into the deepest corners of their subconscious.
Jimin’s breathing turned shallow, his gaze darting around wildly. "No... no, this isn’t real," he muttered, voice cracking. He was seeing something. Something that shattered him from the inside.
Y/n could only guess.
His hands trembled violently. His knees buckled, and he barely caught himself. It was then that he whispered, "Hyung... why did you leave me?"
Y/n’s stomach twisted. What was he seeing? Jimin’s worst fear—it had to be something devastating. His vulnerability, the part of himself he always masked behind bright smiles and teasing words, was laid bare. And she could do nothing but watch.
Meanwhile, Jin’s fists clenched, his breathing ragged. His usually composed expression was breaking apart. "I tried—" he murmured under his breath. "I tried to stop it... I should have been there. I should have—"
His voice cracked. Y/n wanted to reach out, to shake them out of their nightmares, but her hands wouldn’t move. A suffocating weight pressed against her chest, as if the very air in this place resisted her will.
Hoseok suddenly let out a broken laugh. Not his usual bright one, but a laugh devoid of warmth. Cold. Hollow. "You all left, didn’t you?" His smile twisted into something unrecognizable. "Of course, you did. Why wouldn’t you? It’s what always happens."
His voice was drenched in something foreign—resentment? No, pain. The type that dug deep into the soul and festered. The light in his eyes was gone, replaced by something dangerously close to despair.
Taehyung, usually composed even in the face of chaos, suddenly sucked in a sharp breath. He turned abruptly, his hands reaching out, as if trying to grasp onto something—someone. "Wait! Don’t go! Please!" His voice cracked into desperation. His fingers curled into empty air. "Come back... don’t leave me alone!"
And then there was Y/n.
She stood in the middle of it all, her own chest tightening with dread. The maze wasn’t letting her escape, either.
Before she could brace herself, the mirror twisted and morphed, revealing a gruesome sight.
In its place stood a quiet suburban road. The sky was gray, overcast. A bike lay twisted on the pavement. A pair of shoes—small, pink, worn out—sat abandoned in the middle of the street.
Y/n stood frozen.
“No…” Her voice cracked, already knowing what came next.
From behind her, she heard it. Laughter. That sweet, familiar giggle. She turned.
There she was.
A girl no older than twelve, long hair tied in messy pigtails, wearing the same hoodie Y/n used to lend her. She was walking backwards, smiling, waving.
“Unnie, watch me!”
Y/n’s heart dropped. “Don’t—” she gasped, sprinting forward. “Get off the road!”
But her voice didn’t reach.
The scene played out exactly like it had that day.
The screech of tires. A scream. Then silence.
The body lay still. Blood pooling slowly under her sister’s head. Y/n collapsed beside her, sobbing, begging. “Open your eyes, please, please—wake up—”
But nothing changed.
Then the whispers began.
“You said you’d protect me.”
