christmas

december 25, 2005

"IT'S FREAKING COLD," you muttered, a visible puff of breath escaping your lips as the snow continued to fall. christmas lights flickered above the busy streets of shibuya, casting soft glows against the white-dusted sidewalks.

you buried your gloved hands deeper into the pockets of your oversized black leather jacket, the hem falling around mid-thigh, swaying lightly with your steps. underneath, you wore a grey turtleneck sweater, thick enough to shield you from the biting air. an orange scarf was wrapped securely around your neck, adding a sharp pop of color to your muted outfit.

your black mini skirt (you ran out of pants) kept the silhouette sleek, paired with black tights and white thigh-high socks layered underneath. your black-orange combat boots crunched quietly against the snowy pavement, a subtle reminder of your usual edge even in the middle of winter.

you weren't really going anywhere. your boss had all but shoved you out of work, claiming you should celebrate christmas with family. you scoffed at the memory. only if he knew.

home wasn't a place you were in a rush to return to. it was quiet. empty. and while you didn't hate winter, you weren’t fond of it either. your quirk being sweat-based made cold weather inconvenient. but since you weren’t fighting or training, maybe you could deal with it—for now.

"oh? what a nice evening to bump into you, y/n."

you halted, a low 'hah?' slipping from your mouth before you turned your head. there they were—the haitani brothers, leaned casually against their motorbikes like they’d been waiting for you.

you noticed it again, how every damn gangster seemed to have their own bike, like it was a gang requirement or something. you didn’t own one. you didn’t see the need. there was always someone in toman you could hitch a ride with anyway.

ran grinned lazily, eyes half-lidded, dressed in all black with a long coat that flowed behind him. rindou stood next to him, his expression unreadable, dressed in a white coat that contrasted sharply against his dark outfit and the snowy background.

"going somewhere?" ran asked, that same lopsided smirk on his lips.

you scowled. "what is it to you, annabelle wannabe?"

he chuckled, unfazed. "wanna go with us?"

"why would i ever wanna go with you two?!"

and yet, here you were minutes later, gripping tightly to the sides of ran's jacket as the motor roared beneath you. the cold wind slapped your face and your scarf flapped wildly behind you. rindou trailed closely on his own bike, his eyes occasionally glancing your way through the rearview.

"where the hell are we going?!" you shouted over the wind, barely catching your own voice as ran sped up, laughing like this was all some kind of twisted holiday joyride.

"where the night is always fun." he said shortly, giving you a quick glance through the side mirror as the city lights passed by in a blur.

the brothers didn’t plan to run into you. they were just around shibuya for some kind of “business” when they saw you walking by, looking lost in your own head. you didn’t even notice them at first.
