The wind whispered through the rusted husks of forgotten jets, their skeletal remains littered across the graveyard like fallen titans. Valerie crouched near one of her favorite wrecks, running a hand across its scorched metal with quiet reverence. It wasn’t her first time here—this place was a haven of solitude, of calm. The skies above had begun to blush with the colors of sunset, painting her face in golds and reds.
And then… the hum.
Not from the earth, but above.
A sound far too refined for a decaying jet.
Val looked up just in time to see a shadow sweep across the horizon—sleek, sharp, fast. Her eyes widened. That was no ordinary plane.
The jet looped once before descending—too smoothly, too deliberately—landing with a controlled grace that vibrated the ground beneath her. Metal shifted. Parts realigned. And standing before her, tall and impossibly alien, was a Decepticon.
Starscream.
Valerie didn’t scream. Didn’t run. She just… blinked.
“Well, well,” Starscream purred, voice smooth like steel wrapped in silk, “what curious little creature is brave—or foolish—enough to lurk in a place like this?”
She stood up, dusted her hands off, and tilted her head. “This your yard or something?”
That caught him off-guard.
“No,” he hissed, optics narrowing, “but you are in the presence of Starscream, second-in-command of the Decepticons. I suggest you show some respect.”
She squinted. “Huh. You always introduce yourself like that?”
Starscream stepped closer, looming over her, ready to strike if needed—but paused.
His gaze fell to her leg. The mark.
Scarred over, yes—but still there.
He went still.
“You…” His tone shifted, no longer amused. “Where did you get that?”
“What, the leg thing?” she asked casually, as if she wasn’t standing in front of a literal war machine. “No clue. Thought it was a temporary thing at first, but it kinda… stayed. Tried to cut it out once. Didn’t work.”
Starscream crouched slightly, lowering his face to examine the mark more closely—though never invading her space. Not fully.
He knew that symbol. He’d seen it on the Nemesis—encoded data meant to be hidden on Earth, on a host no one would suspect. A failsafe. A backup plan.
Megatron’s plan.
And somehow… this human ended up with it.
“What?” she asked, arms crossed now. “You look like you’ve seen a ghost.”
Starscream straightened. His wings twitched.
“You’re not as insignificant as you appear,” he muttered. “Tell me, human… what’s your name?”
“Valerie,” she said. “Or Vee. Or Val. Depends on who’s asking.”
He stared at her a moment longer, then gave a low chuckle.
“Very well… Val. You may prove to be more useful than I expected.”
“Cool,” she smirked. “Do I get anything out of this, or are we doing the whole ominous threats thing first?”
Starscream was silent for a long beat.
Then: “Hmph. We’ll see.”
