I have already 9 Parts for this one 😄 the next part contains smut.
_______________________________________________Two weeks later, after our nearly every evening late night talks, we finally managed to go on a real date...
The park was quiet, golden with the kind of late afternoon sun that made everything feel softer. A breeze danced through the trees, ruffling the edge of the picnic blanket Taylor had meticulously laid out-complete with a woven basket, cloth napkins, and way too much food for just the two of us.
"You went full Pinterest Mom with this," I teased, eyeing the assortment: fruit skewers, little finger sandwiches, a mason jar salad (seriously), and even a mini bottle of prosecco chilling in a cooler bag.
Taylor grinned, looking too proud of herself. "You say that like it's a bad thing."
"I didn't say it was bad," I said, popping a grape into my mouth. "Just very... on-brand."
She gasped, dramatically clutching her chest. "Are you calling me predictable?"
"I'm saying you have a vibe."
"Oh?" She leaned in a little, eyes playful. "And what vibe would that be?"
I tried not to laugh but failed. "Single mom energy. You're literally a MILF, Taylor."
She raised a brow, pleased. "I knew it. Finally, someone says it to my face."
I snorted into my cup of sparkling water. "You're way too proud of that title."
"Excuse you, I've earned it. Raising a teenager while looking this good?" She gestured to herself like a model on a runway, making me laugh again. "Honestly, you should be calling me Mommy."
I nearly choked. "Taylor!"
"What?" she said innocently, sipping her prosecco with a smirk. "You're the one who said it. I'm just embracing my truth."
I hid my face in my hands, cheeks burning. "You are the worst."
"And yet you're here," she said, nudging my foot with hers under the blanket. "On a date. With the worst."
I peeked at her between my fingers, still smiling. "Yeah. I am."
Her teasing faded just a little, and her eyes softened. "You really are."
The quiet that followed wasn't awkward. It was warm, full of a dozen unsaid things we were slowly starting to understand together. The kind of quiet you settle into when the person next to you already feels like home.
Taylor leaned back on her elbows, eyes tracing the sky as the wind toyed with a few loose strands of her hair. "I never thought I'd end up here... dating someone again. Especially not someone who used to date my daughter."
I blinked, surprised by how directly she said it.
She turned her head toward me, her gaze steady but gentle. "It's weird, right? I mean-let's not pretend it's not complicated. If you had told me a year ago this would happen, I'd have laughed and told you you were out of your mind."
I smiled, a little nervous, a little sad. "Yeah... same."
"But," she said, reaching over to brush her fingers lightly across mine, "then you showed up. And everything got complicated in the best kind of way."
My heart did that little flippy ache thing again.
"I didn't expect this," she continued. "Didn't expect you. Not like this. But I'm really, really glad it's you."
I met her eyes, something warm blooming in my chest. "Me too."
And then, as easy as breathing, I scooted closer, resting my head on her shoulder. Her arm curled around me like it belonged there.
