You were finally free of the prison of the flight, ten grueling hours that felt more like ten million, only to be thrust into the harrowing ordeal of TSA. Tapping your foot impatiently as you stood in the line that didn't seem to move an inch.
Everything felt like it was taking twice as long as usual while your anticipation and nervousness continued to build.
When you finally finished up with security, you all but ran down the escalator and out the main entrance, stepping out into the hot Egyptian sun as a wave of relief washed over you. You were back. Back where you belonged. Not Egypt, of course, but with your friends. Your family.
Your eyes scanned over the crowd of shuffling people and the cars passing in and out, wondering if the others were already here.
As you searched through the incredibly crowded pickup zones, something finally caught your eye. It was your name, messily scrawled on a flimsy piece of paper being held in the hands of Joseph.
A huge grin spread across your face as you dashed over to him, letting your bag fall to the ground as you wrapped your arms around his neck. He returned the embrace, giving you a pat on the back before you both pulled away.
You hugged Avdol next, and Jotaro gave you a brief nod of acknowledgement as you said your greetings to everyone.
You stepped back, tears nearly in your eyes as you looked at them.
"I missed you all so much. Thank you... for letting me come back." You smiled at them again, quickly bringing the back of your hand to your eyes to clear any tears before they had a chance to fall. "And for this." You continued, motioning toward the sign with your name on it.
"It's not a problem, we're happy to have you. I'm sorry about Jotaro." Said the old man. "And he is too, although you won't hear him say it."
With that, Jotaro simply grumbled in response.
"Where the hell is Polnareff? We need to get going." He said, putting his hands in his pockets as he turned to leave.
It's not like you hadn't noticed he wasn't here, but you were trying to ignore it, rationalize it. Perhaps he was staying back for good reason. You didn't know what had occurred in your absence. Iggy wasn't here either, although that wasn't really out of character for him. But hearing the Frenchman's name made you all the more excited, and anxious.
"Look, there he comes now." Avdol announced, gesturing towards the entrance you'd just come out of.
He really was here. Your heart skipped a beat. You paused for a moment, almost too scared to look.
Slowly, you turned your head. There he was, walking out of the airport and looking around, absentmindedly smoothing his already perfect hair back into place.
A smile crept onto your face again as you saw him, completely oblivious to your presence here now.
You didn't hesitate, running towards him as fast as your feet would take you.
When you finally caught up to him, you wrapped your arms around his strong torso, burying your face in his chest and squeezing him as tight as you could.
You couldn't hold back your tears any longer. You half-cried, half-laughed as you just stood there.
"Gah! What the-" The Frenchman exclaimed as your body made contact with his, the sheer force nearly knocking him off his feet.
He looked down at you, body becoming still as you just stood there and held him.
"(Y/n)... You're back..." He spoke softly, and his arms slowly encircled you, almost as if he were afraid to touch you.
