"[Name], sit next to me! Sit next to me!" Naoya insists. "Do you want the window or the aisle seat?"

"I don't really mind either way," you shrug.

"Take the aisle seat, then. Just in case you need to use the bathroom." Naoya chuckles inwardly as he utters the words, then sweeps his hair back in dramatic fashion. "Man, I'm going to be such a considerate husband."

Nanami aggressively rolls his eyes. "You're getting way too excited over a domestic flight. Just please sit down and be quiet. I can tell that you're already bothering the people around us."

Naoya pouts, looking slightly offended by the accusation, but it doesn't take long for him to start smiling again. There are four of you, but only three seats are aligned in a single row. Haibara sits closest to the window, Naoya sits in the middle, and you sit next to the aisle. Nanami unfortunately has to sit in a row by himself (next to two strangers), but he has an aisle seat too, so all he has to do is look back over his shoulder if he wants to talk to you.

It's not too long of a flight from Tokyo to Okinawa, and being on a plane reminds you of when you and Shoko went to Hokkaido together. Ironically enough, this flight is going to take you in the exact opposite direction, but it brings back nice memories. Of the countless people you saved.

You don't plan on letting there be any casualties this time either.

Everyone takes their seats and tries to get as comfortable as possible. The flight crew goes through their usual announcements, including the safety demonstration at the start, and soon enough, you're soaring through the skies, headed towards Japan's subtropical wonderland.

"Haibara," you say, leaning closer to the passionate, ever-smiling boy, who's staring out the window with an incredulous look in his eyes. "How are you feeling? About being sent on this mission, I mean. Are you nervous at all?"

Haibara traces his finger along the glass, as if he's painting the clouds themselves, then he turns towards you with a wide grin.

"Nope!" he beams. "How can I be nervous, when my upperclassmen are working their butts off right now? I need to prove that I can carry my own weight!"

You wouldn't really say Satoru and Suguru are working their butts off. If you remember correctly, today's supposed to be the day when they hit the beach with Riko, go sight-seeing, and basically just have the time of their lives. They're in even less danger than in canon because Toji's been trailing them to make sure no assassins manage to get too close. You wonder what he's been up to since he landed in Okinawa earlier on. Knowing him, he's probably been sampling the local food, just about every chance he gets.

Anyway, none of that is really important right now. You have little to no reason to worry about Riko's safety anymore, as long as Toji is on the job. There is, however, a threat encroaching upon your side of the equation.

Here's the run-down of the situation. In the original storyline, Toji was supposed to have been hired by the Time Vessel Association to murder Riko. He was paid a large sum of money to carry out this task, which he tactfully used to place a bounty on Riko's head and lure more curse users in, knowing that he would be the one to successfully assassinate Riko in the end. This time, the biggest threat of all-Toji himself-is obviously no longer a problem. But the fact that the Time Vessel Association wasn't able to hire Toji to kill Riko means that they were forced to hire other curse users in his place.

However, since none of those curse users are as powerful as Toji, the one-man army, you suspect that means there will be far more of them targeting Riko than there were in canon. Some of them will be dealt with by Toji, of course, but the whole reason the first-years were sent on this mission was to be prepared to deal with an attack. There's no telling how far they've been scattered across Okinawa. Unless your presence in this world really has resulted in a complete overhaul of what was supposed to happen, then there's a very good chance you'll cross paths with at least one of them while you're here.
