+FLASH BACK+ * 3 YEARS AGO
Tom's head was a fog of music and laughter, the party a blur around him. The heat of the room pressed in, but he barely noticed. His thoughts tangled with the argument he'd had with Lexi earlier — sharp words, slammed doors, and that cold silence afterward.
Then she was there—the girl from across the room, eyes glinting with something dangerous. She slipped an arm through his, pulling him away from the crowd.
"Come with me," she whispered, voice low and inviting.
Tom barely resisted. The alcohol made his heart heavy and reckless.
They found a narrow hallway, dimly lit and empty. She pressed close, her breath warm against his neck. The tension between them crackled like static electricity.
Slowly, their lips met—tentative at first, then hungry and desperate.
Tom's mind screamed. What am I doing? But his body betrayed him, caught in a moment he couldn't stop.
Then the door creaked open.
Lexi stood there, eyes wide and shining with tears after a night of worrying, searching for him.
Time froze.
She saw him—the girl's hand still resting on his chest, his face flushed, their breath mingling.
Her world shattered in silence.
"Tom!" she gasped, voice sharp and trembling.
He jolted apart from the girl, his hands pushing her away like he could erase what just happened. "Lexi, wait—"
But she was already turning, fury and heartbreak fueling her steps. She stormed through the hallway, past the pounding music, out the front door.
Tom swallowed hard, heart pounding louder than the bass as he raced after her.
Outside, the cold night air hit him like a slap.
Lexi slid into her car, fumbling with the keys, hands shaking as she tried to turn the ignition. Her breath came fast, eyes wild with panic and pain.
Tom's heart slammed in his chest as he sprinted around to the passenger side of the car. He yanked at the handle, desperate to get inside.
But Lexi's trembling hand flashed to the lock button.
Click.
The door stayed firmly shut.
"Lexi, please!" Tom shouted, pounding his fists against the glass. "Just listen to me!"
Her eyes were fierce, filled with a storm of anger, pain, and betrayal. She looked away, fighting tears as the engine sputtered.
Tom's voice cracked through the glass, desperate and broken.
"I never meant to hurt you."Lexi's eyes flashed with fury, the dam breaking loose.
"Meant to hurt me?!" she spat, voice trembling with rage and pain. "You don't get to say that, Tom. You made your choice that night. You threw us away like we meant nothing. Like I was nothing."She shook her head, tears spilling down her cheeks.
"You didn't even try to fix things. For three days—three days, Tom!—you weren't there. You disappeared. No calls, no texts, nothing. Like I didn't even exist."Her voice cracked, fierce and devastating.
"And you left me... just for some whore."Tom's fists clenched tighter against the door. The weight of her words crushed him, the truth too heavy to deny.
Lexi's gaze hardened, impossible to reach.
"Go ahead, beg for forgiveness. But it's too late."+Present+
The street was quiet now, the chaos of the party a distant memory. Tom leaned heavily against a lamppost, his breath ragged and shoulders shaking with silent sobs.
Haz approached cautiously, giving him space before speaking softly. "Mate... talk to me."
Tom wiped at his eyes, trying to steady his voice. "I messed everything up. I lost her."
Haz's expression softened, but his eyes held a fierce protectiveness. He stepped closer and wrapped a steady hand around Tom's shoulder.
"It's not over yet," Haz said firmly. "But you need to stop beating yourself up."
Tom shook his head. "I don't know how to fix this. I don't even know if she wants me to."
Haz sighed. "You can't control what she feels. But you can control how you move forward. And right now? You need to take care of yourself."
Tom let out a shaky breath, leaning into the comfort. For the first time in days, the walls around him cracked just enough to let something in—hope.
Tom wiped his face again, then met Haz's steady gaze. "I don't want to lose her. Not like this."
Haz nodded, voice calm but firm. "Then you need to be real with her. No excuses, no dodging the truth."
Tom's jaw clenched. "I'm scared. What if she doesn't want to hear me?"
Haz gave him a half-smile. "Then at least you tried. You can't fix what you won't face."
Tom sighed, running a hand through his hair. "Okay. What do I say? How do I even start?"
