Chapter 4: Rules Of A Shared Life

Their first official pre-marriage meeting without family supervision happened three days later — courtesy of their parents’ “You two need to bond” campaign.

And that’s how Wonwoo ended up standing awkwardly inside Mingyu’s apartment, holding a bag of overpriced tea and wondering why he even agreed to this.

“You drink tea, right?” he muttered, not making eye contact.

Mingyu grinned. “I drink coffee. But I’ll pretend tea is my favorite if it makes you feel more welcome.”

Wonwoo rolled his eyes. “You’re annoyingly charming.”

“And you’re surprisingly easy to fluster.”

“I’m not flustered.”

Mingyu just smirked and walked to the kitchen. “Sure.”

---

They ended up on the couch, two mugs of tea steaming between them. A movie played on the screen, some random rom-com Mingyu picked to "break the tension."

Neither of them watched it.

Instead, they made rules.

“If we’re doing this marriage thing,” Wonwoo said, tucking his legs under him, “we need boundaries.”

Mingyu raised a brow. “Already scared you will fall in love with me?”

Wonwoo snorted. “Already sure I won’t.”

“Ouch.”

“I’m serious. We don’t know each other. This is going to be messy if we don’t set ground rules.”

Mingyu nodded. “Okay. Rule one?”

“No touching unless it’s necessary.”

He grinned. “What counts as ‘necessary’?”

Wonwoo narrowed his eyes. “Like… in public. For photos. Or if someone’s watching.”

“Fine. Rule two?”

“No sleeping in the same bed.”

Mingyu made a dramatic gasp. “Even after we’re married?”

“Especially after.”

“You do realize we’ll legally be husbands, right?”

“I don’t care if we’re legally astronauts. I like my space.”

Mingyu leaned back with a sigh. “So cold.”

“You’ll survive.”

He didn’t say it, but the truth was — Wonwoo needed the distance. He didn’t want to risk letting comfort grow into something dangerous. Something that might make him want this marriage for reasons other than duty.

---

Later that evening, Mingyu walked him to the door.

Wonwoo paused at the threshold.

“You’re not that bad, you know,” he said quietly.

Mingyu blinked. “That almost sounded like a compliment.”

“Don’t get used to it.”

He left without looking back.

But the corner of his mouth twitched as he walked away.

---

Two nights later, Mingyu called.

It wasn’t about wedding plans. Not even a polite check-in.

“Hey,” he said casually, “do you have time to come over?”

Wonwoo paused. “Why?”

“Movie night. I ordered that ramen you like.”

Wonwoo frowned. “You barely know what I like.”

“I pay attention.”

A beat.

Then, quietly, “I’ll be there in 20.”

---

This time, they sat closer. The bowl of ramen was shared between them. Their knees brushed once — twice — neither of them moved.

The rules?

Already bending.

And neither of them seemed to mind.

---

Back in his own apartment, Wonwoo stared at the mirror that night.

His cheeks were flushed. His ears, warm.

He thought about Mingyu’s laugh — that deep, effortless sound that filled the room and tugged at something inside him.

And for the first time…

He didn’t feel like a prisoner of this marriage.

He felt curious.

Author’s Note:

So they met because of their parents…
But Mingyu called Wonwoo again — on his own?
Yeah. Something’s definitely changing, and I’m not saying it’s feelings… but I am saying keep watching him.

Thanks for reading through the awkward tension and unexpected progress.
Chapter 5 might just make you smile. Or scream. Who knows?
