The Rose and the Prince

"I'm back! Do you like some lemon blueberry muffins, Prince Manic?"

"Yes!" Manic beamed in delight. "Lemon blueberry muffins are delicious!"

Amy giggled, handing over a plate-full of muffins. "Well here they are for you."

"Thanks!" Manic smiled, then taking a bite out of them. He looked up with a straight face with wide eyes. 

"Is there something wrong, Prince Manic? I can get you something else."

"No." Manic shook his head, giving her a smile. "These muffins are delicious!" Manic looked at her brother Sonic in shock. "She has the best muffins in the world, Sonic! She beats the castle baker with these!"

"Really!?" Amy smiled with delight. "Why thank you, Prince Manic!"

"Hold it for just a second!" Manic stopped. "If you're Sonic's girlfriend, you don't call me that. Just Manic is fine."

"I don't need to call you that!?"

Manic chuckled. "Might as well bow down to Sonic and think of what he says. He's the heir to be king, and won't be long, now."

Sonic stood on his feet. "Now hold on, Manic. I don't think I'll be king. I live here in Mobius with a someone that is always attacking it, I have amazing friends, and my Amy lives here! You know how far away Metropolis is from here."

"Sonic, it doesn't matter what the circumstances are, you know that. You're the heir to be king, Dad has chosen you, and you must come home and take the crown."

"Well, I don't want to Manic. Why can't you be king and not me?"

"Are you serious, Sonic!?" Manic stood up on his feet. "I don't decide that, dad does! He picks who will be crowned king."

"Well then, tell dad that I refuse!"

"Do you know how hurt dad would be? Not only hurt, but furious! He's been expecting you to be king since you were born! And as he is about to die, you refuse!"

"I'll leave you two alone." said Amy, walking towards the front door.

"No Ames, you can stay." Sonic replied to her.

"You want her to stay? Why? To not fight me!?" 

"In her house?" Sonic looked at him in anger. 

"Fine, let's do it outside. Prince to prince!" Manic shouted.

"Look Manic, I don't want to fight."

"Well I do! You've abandoned us, Sonic. The whole family has been worried sick about you for years! Poor Sonia wasn't able to sleep for a long time from you being gone. Poor dad that eh has no one to rely on to take his place, why? Because my lousy brother, Sonic decided to run away!"

"Manic, I'm sorry that I haven't been there for the family."

"Yeah, you're sure sorry!" Manic roared. "You won't even visit the castle to visit us."

"That's not correct, Manic, I am going to visit them."

"Oh yeah? When?"

"Now."

There was silence. 

Sonic stared at his brother with determination in his eyes.

"So you're finally going to go now to see them? After 12 years?"

"Yes of course." Sonic replied sternly. "Especially since I need to work things out with Dad."

Manic rolled his eyes. "Yeah, that's going to go well, Sonic."

Sonic looked back at Amy Rose, his hands holding on to hers. 

"Well Ames, I might as well head over there now."

"....ok."

"Amy, I am sorry for not telling you sooner. I'll tell you everything once I come back. But right now, I have to see my Dad."

"I understand, Sonic." Amy replied, feeling a little hurt.

"Okay." Sonic stroked the back of her head, giving Amy a quick kiss. "I'll be back, soon. In the meantime, are you ok, if Manic stays with you?"

"Yeah, that's totally fine with me. I'll bring him around town and introduce him to our friends."

"You can do that, but just keep the thing hidden that Manic's family, I want to talk to them first about it." Sonic looked up at Manic, seeing him flustered from his words. "Okay Manic."

Manic rolled his eyes. "Whatever."

Sonic then kissed Amy, again. "I'll be back soon."

"Sonic, you know that the family would want to have dinner with you. Just stay there and spend some time with them."

Sonic looked down at the floor, nodding. He then walked over to the front door. 

"Keep her safe for me, ok Manic?"

"You bet I will!" Manic smiled.

"Okay." Sonic smiled, then blurred off in superspeed.

Sonic was now heading to the castle of Metropolis to see his family for the first time in 12 years, and to convince his father important things related to the throne. Little did he know that it would soon be the end the relationship between him with Amy.
