"So...Peridot..."
The green girl turned her head in your direction, taking her attention away from Mochi for a moment. "What?"
"What do you wanna do?" You asked, giving her a small smile while doing so. She examined you for a second before looking back to the cat.
"Go home."
You frowned at the words, mostly because you felt a little bad. You couldn't imagine how terrifying it must be to be lost, away from home. On another planet, at that. "Are you scared?"
There was a moment of silence.
"No," She drooped her head a bit, glancing at you. "Why?" You avoided her gaze.
"I was just wondering." With that, you walked into the living room. You took a seat on the couch and stared up at the ceiling. Your mind wandered to Peridot and what to do with her. Truth is, you were really worried for her. You couldn't explain it, but something about her made you want to protect her at costs. You just met this person yesterday, and here you were willing to put your safety on the line for her.
"Human." You were jerked out of your thoughts by Peridot's sharp tone. Looking at her, you gave her a raise of the brow. "I'm bored."
"I asked what you wanted to do," you sighed, laying back into the couch. She frowned.
"I highly doubt that you have anything to entertain me in the slightest."
"Well, what do you like to do?" Her eyes widened.
"I...w-what?" She stared at you for a moment. "...I...well, I usually only fix and control the machines...I don't do much of anything else." And just like that, the lightbulb in your head flickered on with an idea. You smiled and hopped up, running over to your room. She also got up, slowly following you. "What are you doing?"
You came back, holding something behind your back. "You fix things, correct?"
"Yes..." She gave you a questioning look. You could feel your cheeks heat up as you brought a small object from behind your back. It was a miniature teddy bear. It was a bit dirty in some spots, and was missing an eye.
"He--I mean, it used to dance and play a song. I don't know what's wrong with it." She was obviously about to decline before you went on. "My mom gave it to me. It's one of the only things I have from her, so it's really old. But it's really important to me, too..." You trailed off, tears threaten to spill from your eyes.
Peridot bit her lip and let out a sigh. "...I guess I could see what's wrong with it." Your eyes lit up at the words. Shoving the bear into her hands, you thanked her. She avoided your gaze. "I need somewhere quiet to work."
"My brother's study is down there," you offered, pointing down the hall. She nodded and made her way there.

You were in the midst of browsing tumblr when Peridot walked in, teddy in hand. Your eyes widened. "He's...perfect..."
And that was no lie. Its once drab gray fur was now a shining snow white. The clothing was no longer ripped and holding on by mere stitches. The other eye was even there! Now, there was only one last thing to check.
You gently take the bear from her floating fingers. With a shaky finger, you hesitantly press the black button. A second passed. Then two. Five.
Nothing happened.
Even the rain that had been pattering down on your roof has ceased. Nothing but silence filled your ears.
You let out a disheartened sigh. "Thanks, you tr--"
"You didn't turn it on." She rolled her eyes. She unbuttoned the back of the bear's vest to reveal a switch. It was currently at off. You blushed in embarrassment, quickly turning it on. You once again pressed the button.
The small contraption came to life before your very eyes. It started doing a slow waltz to a music box-like song. A song that you recognized instantly. Your mother would hum it to you to calm you down. When she was gone, you would listen to the bear constantly. This helped for a few years, but the overuse eventually caused it to short out. The memories brought tears to your eyes. This time, you were unable to stop them, and they flowed down your cheeks.
"H-hey!" Peridot took a step toward you. "Are you okay? Does it not sound right? I--"
"I'm..." You opened your eyes, gazing at the ground before drifting up to her eyes. "...I'm just so unbelievably happy right now...!" Without giving it a second thought, you lunged forward and wrapped your arms around the confused girl. You mumbled a million thank you's into her shoulder. Her body stiffened up, but soon relaxed.
"Um...yeah. You're, uh, welcome," she said awkwardly, pulling back. You realized what you were doing, and quickly jumped back. Your face was now a bright red, and you looked away.
"Sorry."
Peridot examined you for what seemed like forever before letting out a giggle. You quickly turned your attention back to her, looking confused. "W-what's so funny?!"
"I-it's not that!" She said in between giggles. She stopped and looked at you. "It's just...you humans and your sentimental values...it's so strange. I can't even begin to comprehend it. And I don't mean that in a bad way, this time."
The look in her eyes made you smile. You couldn't explain it, but her words had filled you with so much joy. "I think that's the first time you've said something about me that wasn't an insult."
"So it is," she mumbled. Her tone got louder as she gave a scoff and said,"Probably the last time, too."
"Hey!" You frowned, but quickly smiled again and laughed. Light shone through the window, landing right on Peridot. Her skin gleamed under the rays, and her eyes sparkled for a moment. You stared in awe, forcing your mouth to stay closed.
"ACH MY EYES."
Aaand there goes the moment.
