Hey guys!  Important AN at the end, so make sure to check that out.  Okay, I'll let you resume reading now.

"...When is your...er...brother returning?"

You and Peridot were sitting on the couch watching reruns of your favorite television show. You glanced down at your phone and realized she had a point. Your brother had been gone for five hours. "Dunno," you murmured, turning your attention back to the show,"must've lost track of time. He does that sometimes."

"Oh."

Peridot's eyes were glued to the screen, her expression indicating she was very lost in thought. You raised a brow at her. "You alright there, Peri?"

"I don't...I can't...human--"

"It's _____."

"Er, _____...what is the meaning of this mindless entertainment?" She looked genuinely perplexed at the idea of television.  You shrugged and leaned into the couch.

     "To mindlessly entertain us."

She rolled her eyes and stood up, blocking the TV. "I'm bored." You raised your gaze to meet hers.

"Then go do something."  Peridot let out a long, exaggerated sigh.

"There's nothing to do!  Nothing here interests me in the slightest."

"Go on the internet or something." You muttered, barely paying attention.  Your favorite character was on the screen, and even though you'd seen this scene so many times you could quote it word-by-word, you were still mesmerized.

"What's an internet?" Peridot looked thoroughly perplexed, and quickly brought out her screen to try and figure it out. You held back a laugh and explained it to her.

"It's a place where you can look up practically anything, really. Anything you want to know! Oh, and you can entertain yourself too. There's videos, blogs..." Your voice began to fade out to the gem as she processed your words. Anything you want to know.

"Can it tell me how to get back home?" Her voice surprised you, it was so quiet you almost didn't hear her. You were mid-sentence, so your mouth was slightly agape when you stopped and examined her.  You furrowed your brows and bit your lip.

"Well, I mean. . ." You looked up and saw her eyes were as big as saucers, and a ping or guilt went through you. "I guess. . .?" Her eyes lit up and she jumped up and down, causing the room to quiver.

"Show me this 'Internet' right now!  Where must we go?" You smirked and stood up, stretching your back.  You then motioned for her to follow you, leading her to your room.  "Why are we proceeding to your sleeping chamber?"

"To use my laptop?" You said, making it seem like it was the most obvious thing in the world.  Peridot let out a huff of annoyance, choosing not to say anything else for the moment.  You logged onto your laptop and brought up Google Chrome.

"Now what?" The curiosity seeped from her voice, causing your smile to grow.

"Well. . . You search for what you want to know!  Here, I'll show you." You placed how fingers on the keyboard and typed in 'cats,' then watched as a variety of adorable breeds flooded your monitor.  Peridot looked thoroughly confused and pressed her floating fingers against the screen.

"Why are those creatures stuck in there?" She asked with concern, turning to you.  You bit back a laugh and shook your head.

"No, no, they're not stuck in there!  They're just pictures."

     "Oh."

"I'm going to go make something to eat, so look up what you want," you said whilst standing up. "Just please don't blow up my laptop."

She nodded and positioned herself in front of the contraption, still seeming amazed. I was expecting her to downgrade it in comparison to her planet's technology, you thought with a smile. What a pleasant surprise.

"_____, what is a 'meme'?" Was the first thing you heard when you returned to the room.  You opted not to answer the question and instead averted to a different topic.

"Did you find what you were looking for?" You asked while munching on some potato chips.  Peridot frowned and solemnly shook her head to the negative.

"I did manage to find out where Beach City is, though!" She sounded a bit more confident now, and a little bit of her glow returned.  You popped in another chip.

     "And where is that?"

"Somewhere in. . . Hay-way-i." You stared at her with confusion for a moment. "They're some islands in 'America'."

"Oooh," you hummed as it finally clicked,"you mean Hawaii.  I know where that is!" She jumped off the bed with a look of pure glee.

"Really?  Can we go there?  Now?" She was radiating with excitement, and it was actually a bit overwhelming.

"Not. . . Exactly." You mumbled, causing her smile to fade immediately.

"What do you mean?  Why not?"

"It's kind of across the ocean, Peri.  We don't exactly have a way at the moment." She frowned and flopped back on the bed.  You sat next to her, patting her on the back.  After a moment of silence, you lifted your bowl of chips to her as an offer.   She looked at it with disgust.

     "Ew, no."

You two then heard the front door open, and the sound of footsteps coming in.  You jumped up and ran into the living room, the sight of your brother's 'fro causing you to smile.

"Danny!" You gave him a hug. "What took so long?" Your smile dropped when you pulled away, catching sight of his solemn expression. "Dan--"

"We've got a problem.  It has to do with Peridot."

Hello readers, new and old!

You may have noticed that I have not updated in a very long time.  I deeply apologize, and realize I kind of owe an explanation.

As pathetic as it sounds, I was simply in too deep of a depression to.  Up until recently, I couldn't bring myself to write anything.  It just...got really bad.  If you guys want more details on the situation, go ahead and PM me, but I'm not going to waste anymore space here about it.  Instead, I would like to thank you!

First off, I know it's not that much, but thank you guys for 2+K reads!  It means a bunch to me, and I'm glad you guys like what you see!  Speaking of that, don't forget to leave votes, too.  It really does help!

Secondly, thank you for being so supportive in the last chapter.  You guys, especially the ones that PM'd me, really made me feel a bit better.  It makes me happy to know that you guys aren't purely here for the story, and won't riot if I have to leave for a while.  It means so much!

But, anyways, rest assured that I will be updating this more frequently now.  Thanks for sticking with me!
