How could she have been so stupid? She'd done it and she had done it horribly. Out of all the things that could happen to her, Claire Jett Wright fell in love with a crank.
Love was not a word she threw around lightly but in this case, that damn crank made her go crazy.

He wasn't immune. Eventually one day, right before her very eyes, he would turn and forget about her and his life.

The silence of the world around her caused her to shiver. Stevenson was dead, Josephine could die and Newt was going to turn. Radar was the only person she had left. The chances of them making it to Denver seemed slim to none now. They didn't have a car or a leader or hope.

Jett thought back to the earlier days, when the plague had just broken out and the earth was put into a massive oven. She thought of her mother, Dr. Wright and her sister Kelsey. How they showered every night in a clean facility and listened to music amongst the very few other children who's parents worked for Wicked.

A shudder engulfed her body and she hugged her knees, rocking herself back and forth while Radar's soft snores echoed in her head. She didn't want to wake him, she didn't have enough power to do so.

Love should not exist in a world like this, but it did.

-

The scorching sun radiated every piece of metal on the truck and Jett woke up from the immediate pain of her skin coming into contact with the hot metal of the interior.

She had fallen asleep but she had no time to beat herself up over it, she looked at the sleeping people in the car and felt a wave of relief wash over her.

Jett scrambled up and wiped away the sand that had stuck to her pants. She went around the back and picked up one of the backpacks of food they had stolen from Teresa. She stuck her hand in and grabbed out a granola bar and a bottle of warm water. She kicked her feet up and sat on the upside down hood of the truck.

"Ouch! Radar get the hell off of me!" Josephine suddenly squealed.

"Morning to you too sunshine." Radar grumbled.

"Jett?" Newt was quick to question.

"I'm here." She muttered.

Newt and Radar tiredly stepped out of the upside down truck and joined her outside in the blazing heat.

"Did you have a good sleep?" Jett asked sarcastically.

"It wasn't bad." Radar shrugged, honesty dripping from his mouth.

She raised a brow and laughed at him. "Good because we have a long day ahead of us."

"Oh god." Radar shook his head. "No way."

Jett only laughed. "That's right buddy, we set out on foot today."

"Do you even know which was Denver is?" Newt questioned.

"The sun rises in the east and sets in the west, I watched the sun set last night and I remembered Sid telling me that Denver was in the west."

"Clever." Newt nodded. "Bloody clever."

Jett blushed but shook her head. "Just common sense."
