Choices the third of four in the Shattered Series, (Shattered, Forgiven, Choices, and The After,with)

This she wasn't expecting, it wasn't an ambush exactly but it was pretty close, "Mrs.Ruzek" she said softly, she could see Adam chasing after her a few paces behind. She closed the car door and set the box she was carrying on the hood of her car.

"How's Anthony?" She feigned ignorance, but she was certain they knew, Kim's face was bright red and her body language let her know she was pissed.

"Don't you dare! How could you?" Kim asked trying to keep her voice firm, not wanting to give her the satisfaction of her tears, "how dare you tell my son about Wendy"

"You mean his mother?" Katrina asked, "He deserved to know the truth, Adam you should have told him!"

Adam could see the anger coming off Kim in waves, he immediately stepped in between the two women, "Katrina, we had planned on telling him" he could feel Kim trying to push him out of her way, "when he was old enough to understand, you had no right to tell him!"

"How could you look at him everyday and lie to him? You didn't waste anytime to find him a replacement mother, huh?" Her own anger building, "she loved you Adam!"

"Don't do that, don't turn this around on me!" He yelled, "my marriage to Wendy wasn't perfect I know, but it was over long before that accident" he said through his teeth.

"He's just a little boy" Kim pleaded, "he thought I loved his sister more, do you know how confused you've made him?"

"I hate that but I stand by what I did. Sure, I guess I could have explained it better but he needed to know, she was my best friend. I owed it to her"

Kim was furious, "No you didn't, you did it to hurt me and Adam you didn't have Anthony's best interest at heart, you used him" her blood pressure had to be sky high, "you just poked a hornet's nest, I hope you enjoyed Chicago and working at this school because I'm going to run your ass out of this city"

Katrina tried to maintain her composure, "I'd like to see you try"

"Bitch, you won't know what hit you when I'm finished" she grabbed Adam's hand, "let's go"

"Wow!" Adam said as he buckled his seat belt, "I didn't know you had it in you" he laughed, "I'm not gonna lie I'm seriously turned on right now"

He faced her, her arms folded across her chest, her bottom lip trembling, "Talk to me"

Kim burst into tears, "She used our son to hurt you and me, I'm so angry Adam" she wiped at her eyes, "I can't believe she would hurt a child like that, just to get back at you"

"Anthony is okay, sure it knocked him for a loop but he's okay" he leaned over and kissed her, "I'm a little worried about Katrina's safety to be honest" hoping to bring a smile to her face.

Kim swatted at him, "Adam, I meant every word I said, I've never used my name to make things happen, I always wanted to hide from my family's influence but not now, I'm going to use it to ruin her"

"Seriously, you're not making this easier for me, the more you talk like this the more I want you" his voice raspy.

"Adam Ruzek, you're a mess" she laughed wiping her tears, "let's go home, maybe this time we will end up with a bun in the oven"

"Suspended?" Katrina retorted, "for telling the truth?"

"Don't do that" Principal Baker laughed, "what you did was unethical and a tad bit cruel, you're lucky it's only a suspension" he slid the reprimand across the desk for her to sign.

"Can I ask you something?"

"Yea"

"Kim Ruzek, is she influential in this city?"

He smirked, "Her family as a whole was among the most influential people in this city, until a few years ago they had some issues with the law. Kim wasn't involved and she is the one who is influential now. She does most of her talking with her checkbook" he took the form back, "why do you ask?"

"She said she'd run me out of this town"

He sighed, "I'm sorry" he wasn't sure what else to say, "see you in two weeks" he hoped at the end of the suspension Kim and Adam would have dropped it. Anthony had already been transferred to a different class and he hoped it would all blow over.
