Based on an anonymous request and the song "I'll be Good" by Jaymes Young
Warnings: Sad, character death an attempt at angst.
Gabriel sat in your room, looking at your calm, sleeping body. Your chest rose and fell at a regular pace. You looked so calm, so beautiful, he thought. The room was empty apart from the two of you. It was quiet, the only sound being the steady beep of your heart monitor.
Gabriel felt like it was all his fault. If he'd stopped the witch...no. If he'd prevented you from going on that hunt, you wouldn't be in a coma.
How he wished he could heal you. Unfortunately most spells could only be reversed by the witch that cast them. For once in his life, Gabriel felt powerless.
There was a soft knock at the door. "Sir? Visiting hours are over." The nurse said.
He could have stopped time. He could have smited the nurse then and there. But he didn't. You'd changed him.
With you there were no deaths. No running, no hiding. You accepted Gabriel as he was. He was no longer the vengeful Trickster or the chaotic Loki. After thousands of years, he was Gabriel.
"Sir?" The soft voice snapped him back to reality.
"I'm sorry. I just..." Gabriel gave a weak smile as his voice trailed off. "How are they?"
"Y/N's condition continues to worsen. I worry about treatment."
"I have money." Gabriel said sharply.
"Not that. If they don't improve soon, we may have to think about intensive care. Or ending it all together." The nurse said.
Gabriel held back tears as he got up from the stool beside your bed. "I understand."
He leaned over your unmoving figure and gently kissed your forehead. "I'll be back tomorrow Sugar. Promise."
In a daze he stumbled out of the room. Unsure of where to turn, he headed to the church.
It was quiet, his footsteps echoing throughout the building. Gabriel sat at an empty pew and began to speak.
"Hey pops. It's been a while, huh?" There was no reply. He wasn't expecting one. "Yeah I'm good. But here's the thing..."
His voice trembled. "Y/N's hurt real bad. I don't know what to do. If we can't find a cure soon-" He couldn't bring himself to say it.
"Please. Have I ever asked for something? Or is this some kind of cosmic joke?! The one damn person who I actually care about...the one person who ever understood me is...is dying!"
"I was a coward and I know. Y/N's everything I could never be and I was too scared to admit my feelings."
He rested his face in his hands and fought back a sob. "It's all my fault."
-_-_-_-_-
Beep! Beep! Beep!
"Heart rate is dropping!"
Gabriel stood outside of your room with a look of horror on his face. Nurses and Doctors were running around trying to stabilise your condition.
"This isn't happening." Gabe muttered to himself.
Beeeeeeep
A nurse checked his watch. "Time of death, 8:25."
