13 - Falling Meteors & Another Interview
"Okay, I let you sleep last night. Now spill everything!"
I sighed contently while running my hands through my hair. "George. How did I get so lucky? This important and famous CEO is interested in me, despite all the craziness he witnessed during the first hours he met me."
"Oh, I don't care about that. What happened last night?" George was barely walking straight. He kept running into people and almost making me trip, since he was practically walking in front of me. "You came home in a daze. I had never seen you like that before," he pointed out.
I pursed my lips. "Well, maybe because he is a damn good kisser."
"Oh! What I would give for a kiss of that man!" A chill ran through George's body.
"George!" I slapped him on the arm while I laughed out loud.
"What?" he whined.
"He's mine. Back off," I joked.
"Well, I'm gonna be seeing a lot of him so I get to daydream about him being with me instead of you."
"I'll find you a friend of his," I promised with a mischievous glint.
George chortled and pulled at my hair. "What do you have to do today?"
My attitude dampened. I was so not in the mood to work. "Gotta add a personal note to my part of the article. I also promised Ginny to help her with some paperwork for some work, not sure what it is about."
George nodded in understanding and opened the door for me, since we were in front of our building already. "Amelia and I have tons to work on as well. See you at lunch then?"
"Yeah," I agreed.
"When is the meeting, by the way?" he asked as we got into the elevator. I can't wait to see Jennifer's face fall off when you walk victorious to the meetings room."
"Two days from now, isn't it?" I remarked, counting the days with my fingers. The coffee had not kicked in yet.
The doors to the elevator opened and we were greeted by curtness and stress.
"Some models have just arrived for the fall photoshoot," Amelia filled in, barely gazing at us. She looked strained and I massaged her shoulders as we walked.
"Is everything set?" George asked from beside me.
"Kinda," Amelia said as we got into George's office and collapsed on his couch. "Virginia knows that Tess already interviewed Andrew Disick, so she changed the entire focus of the issue. She wants a photoshoot of him in the cover."
"What about Rihanna?" I asked right away.
"Virginia convinced her to settle for a fall photoshoot."
"Hence all these models," George mumbled in understanding. I gaped and let my back fall noisily on the couch. I could bet I would be the one on charge to get Andrew's picture. I was excited to be done with business with him. I wanted to go out with him but if I had to work with him, I had to wait.
"She's probably gonna call you throughout the morning to tell you," Amelia told me.
I sighed defeated. "I guess I should start on today's work then, so I don't get too behind on it."
They gave me apologetic smiles and I waved goodbye. Jerry complimented me on my clothes of choice and followed me to my office.
"Alright, I gotta work, Jerry."
"Sure love, do you want something? A coffee and a bagel? My heart?"
I gazed down at the papers on my desk, not wanting to give him a look he might misunderstand for something else. "I think I'm fine for now," I said in a firm voice, sitting on my chair. I started ruffling through the papers, as if to hint him to go away.
He just stood there. I saw him through my lashes and muttered under my breath an obscenity. "See you later, Jerry."
"Oh, sure honey, have an excellent morning," he chirped and closed the door after him.
I turned on my laptop and searched for a pen meanwhile. As I always did, I checked my emails first thing. My heart skipped a beat when I saw Andrew's name at the top of the bunch.
Hi, Tess!
Just wondered if you were up for the lunch today? I know it's soon but...a meteor could hit us anytime, don't you think?
My most sincere regards,
Andrew Disick.
CEO Disick & Brown Enterprise.
I bit my bottom lip. I reflexively looked up, obviously to find my office empty.
Hey, Andrew,
Lunch today would be great. A meteor could be on its way already.
Tess.
Glamour.
I had to cancel on Amelia and George. I suddenly felt guilty. I had given them my word. I rushed out of my office and headed straight for George's.
He looked up from his floor –he had quirky ways to work, and they really worked, his final presentation was always impeccable and incredible.
"What's up?"
"I might have to cancel on the lunch."
He looked appalled. "Why?"
"Well...Andrew asked me to have lunch with him and I said yes without thinking."
George stood up straight right away. "You're going out to lunch with him?" I nodded and he shrieked. "Oh, my god! Oh, my god!"
"Calm down," I hissed, looking out of his office to make sure we were not calling attention. "I really should not, we're still working together, but I can't resist."
"That's barely working together," George pointed out.
"You think?" I asked as I blushed. I loved when George built up my expectations.
"Totally," he solemnly nodded. "Worry not, Amelia and I go to lunch and then when we come back you give us all the details and we freak out altogether."
I laughed out loud. "I should get back to work."
He dismissed me as he threw himself to the floor again. I hid the smile that threatened to take over my features as I walked back to my office. It was then that I felt a tap on my shoulder. It was Virginia's newest assistant, Helga. I was glad to still remember the poor girl's name. At least someone should.
"Hey, Helga."
She lightened up when she heard me call her by her name. "Hi, Tess. Mrs. Virginia wants to see you. Now," she added.
I sighed and followed her.
Virginia was flipping through a sample book with a couple of models by her side. She barely looked up. "Tess, how is the interview coming?"
"Great, I got it almost ready."
"Good. I want a photoshoot of Andrew Disick accompanying it. It is a very big deal that he is giving us this interview."
"Would you want his partner in the photoshoot as well?" I asked resigned. I really wanted this to be over so I could go out with him without any business reasons getting in the way.
"Oh, yes, Alec Brown. Could you get an interview of his as well?"
"Sure."
"Well, see you at the meeting with everything settled then."
I gulped harshly and exchanged a look with Helga. She shrugged minutely in compassion and I excused myself from the cold office.
