43 - New Office Couples & Planned Trips

"So, welcome back, you witch!" George squealed as he hugged me. He had come to pick me up at the airport with Kyle.

"Why are you calling me a witch, though?" I complained as I let myself be squashed by him.

"You left me here a week on my own and you still dare to ask?" he demanded.

I scoffed. "You were not on your own."

He huffed, "I was."

He shot an angry look at Kyle who just laughed apologetically. "I had to work a lot this week," he defended.

"Oh, guys it does not matter, let's go home. I am hungry and cold." I ushered them out of the airport.

"And how is Andrew?" George asked as we walked towards the metro.

I shrugged. I missed him terribly. I did not tell him often because I wanted to act like an adult, but I really did miss him. "He is good. He always has a good time with Alec. He said it's a bit colder than he expected. Patricia already went into a shopping spring I heard," I said with a laugh.

"Yeah, she told me. I already gave her a list," George replied with a giggle. "We have to travel to Europe. Don't you think it would be awesome, Kyle?"

We turned to Kyle as we hopped in the metro we needed to take. He smiled tightly and nodded. "Absolutely."

I looked away and frowned my eyebrows. This guy definitely needed to work on expressing himself. I never knew what he was thinking or if he really wanted to do what we were doing.

----*----*----*---

I got the last files printed out by Ginny before heading to the meeting with Virginia.

"Say, Ginny...I have noticed you a bit distracted lately..." I mused, trying to fight a smile as I mocked Ginny.

She turned bright red once again and handed me the last papers without looking at me in the eye.

"Hi, guys!" Jerry said as he walked towards us.

"And I do feel like Jerry comes by so often now!" I continued to note. "He did not come so often before to visit me..." I mused with faked confusion.

Ginny opened and closed her mouth, unable to find the words to reply. I crossed my arms over my chest amused and looked at each of them expectantly.

Jerry cleared his throat and put an arm around Ginny. "If you want to know, Ginny and I are going out," he said with a sheepish smile.

She gulped and just looked to the floor. "Oh, come on Ginny, be a bit more ecstatic about it," I urged. "Dating is fun, I promise."

She laughed nervously and turned to look at Jerry, who was still holding her. She smiled fondly at him and as they continued to stare at each other adoringly, I quietly stepped back and walked to Virginia's office.

I had a broad smile as I walked in, feeling all giddy for the good matching I had done. I did not doubt Jerry could have dated Esmeralda, but I could feel he was much more compatible with Ginny. I had noticed she had a huge crush on him for a while. She had never acted pettily towards me for the feelings Jerry swore he had for me.

Now that I saw him with Ginny, I could confirm that he had never had real feelings for me. I think sometimes we decide unconsciously to fancy someone we know would not reciprocate or that would not be a good fit, just to protect ourselves from being hurt.

I blinked repeatedly to bring the room into focus. Virginia was hanging up the phone as I turned to look at her.

She sighed deeply and looked at me for a moment. Then she looked out her window.
