INT. HATFIELD HOUSE - AFTERNOON
Gentle swordsman MR DAVID THUNDER is arguing with down to earth cleaner MR JOSHUA RAYMOND. DAVID tries to hug JOSHUA but he shakes her off.
DAVID
Please Joshua, don't leave me.
JOSHUA
I'm sorry David, but I'm looking for somebody a bit more brave. Somebody who faces her fears head on, instead of running away.
DAVID
I am such a person!
JOSHUA frowns.
JOSHUA
I'm sorry, David. I just don't feel excited by this relationship anymore.
JOSHUA leaves.
DAVID sits down, looking defeated.
Moments later, remarkable painter MS CARLA MALKOVICH barges in looking flustered.
DAVID
Goodness, Carla! Is everything okay?
CARLA
I'm afraid not.
DAVID
What is it? Don't keep me in suspense...
CARLA
It's ... a mugger ... I saw an evil mugger rob a bunch of children!
DAVID
Defenseless children?
CARLA
Yes, defenseless children!
DAVID
Bloomin' heck, Carla! We've got to do something.
CARLA
I agree, but I wouldn't know where to start.
DAVID
You can start by telling me where this happened.
CARLA
I was...
CARLA fans himself and begins to wheeze.
DAVID
Focus Carla, focus! Where did it happen?
CARLA
Trafalgar Square! That's right - Trafalgar Square!
DAVID springs up and begins to run.

EXT. A ROAD - CONTINUOUS
DAVID rushes along the street, followed by CARLA. They take a short cut through some back gardens, jumping fences along the way.

EXT. TRAFALGAR SQUARE - SHORTLY AFTER
ELIZABETH WILLIAMS a controlling mugger terrorises two children.
DAVID, closely followed by CARLA, rushes towards ELIZABETH, but suddenly stops in her tracks.
CARLA
What is is? What's the matter?
DAVID
That's not just any old mugger, that's Elizabeth Williams!
CARLA
Who's Elizabeth Williams?
DAVID
Who's Elizabeth Williams? Who's Elizabeth Williams? Only the most controlling mugger in the universe!
CARLA
Blinkin' knickers, David! We're going to need some help if we're going to stop the most controlling mugger in the universe!
DAVID
You can say that again.
CARLA
Blinkin' knickers, David! We're going to need some help if we're going to stop the most controlling mugger in the universe!
DAVID
I'm going to need guns, lots of guns.
Elizabeth turns and sees David and Carla. She grins an evil grin.
ELIZABETH
David Thunder, we meet again.
CARLA
You've met?
DAVID
Yes. It was a long, long time ago...

EXT. A PARK - BACK IN TIME
A young DAVID is sitting in a park listening to some orchestral music, when suddenly a dark shadow casts over her.
She looks up and sees ELIZABETH. She takes off her headphones.
ELIZABETH
Would you like some white mice?
DAVID's eyes light up, but then he studies ELIZABETH more closely, and looks uneasy.
DAVID
I don't know, you look kind of controlling.
ELIZABETH
Me? No. I'm not controlling. I'm the least controlling mugger in the world.
DAVID
Wait, you're a mugger?
DAVID runs away, screaming.

EXT. TRAFALGAR SQUARE - PRESENT DAY
ELIZABETH
You were a coward then, and you are a coward now.
CARLA
(To DAVID) You ran away?
DAVID
(To CARLA) I was a young child. What was I supposed to do?
DAVID turns to ELIZABETH.
DAVID
I may have run away from you then, but I won't run away this time!
DAVID runs away.
She turns back and shouts.
DAVID
I mean, I am running away, but I'll be back - with guns.
ELIZABETH
I'm not scared of you.
DAVID
You should be.

INT. NATIONAL HISTORY MUSEUM - LATER THAT DAY
DAVID and CARLA walk around searching for something.
DAVID
I feel sure I left my guns somewhere around here.
CARLA
Are you sure? It does seem like an odd place to keep deadly guns.
DAVID
You know nothing Carla Malkovich.
CARLA
We've been searching for ages. I really don't think they're here.
Suddenly, ELIZABETH appears, holding a pair of guns.
ELIZABETH
Looking for something?
CARLA
Crikey, David, she's got your guns.
DAVID
Tell me something I don't already know!
CARLA
The earth's circumference at the equator is about 40,075 km.
DAVID
I know that already!
CARLA
I bite my toenails.
ELIZABETH
(appalled) Dude!
While ELIZABETH is looking at CARLA with disgust, DAVID lunges forward and grabs her deadly guns. He wields them, triumphantly.
DAVID
Prepare to die, you controlling carrot!
ELIZABETH
No please! All I did was rob a bunch of children!
JOSHUA enters, unseen by any of the others.
DAVID
I cannot tolerate that kind of behaviour! Those children were defenceless! Well now they have a defender - and that's me! David Thunder defender of innocent children.
ELIZABETH
Don't hurt me! Please!
DAVID
Give me one good reason why I shouldn't use these guns on you right away!
ELIZABETH
Because David, I am your mother.
DAVID looks stunned for a few moments, but then collects herself.
DAVID
No you're not!
ELIZABETH
Ah well, it had to be worth a try.
ELIZABETH tries to grab the guns but DAVID dodges out of the way.
DAVID
Who's the mummy now? Huh? Huh?
Unexpectedly, ELIZABETH slumps to the ground.
CARLA
Did she just faint?
DAVID
I think so. Well that's disappointing. I was rather hoping for a more dramatic conclusion, involving my deadly guns.
DAVID crouches over ELIZABETH's body.
CARLA
Be careful, David. It could be a trick.
DAVID
No, it's not a trick. It appears that... It would seem... Elizabeth Williams is dead!
DAVID
What?
DAVID
Yes, it appears that I scared her to death.
CARLA claps his hands.
CARLA
So your guns did save the day, after all.
JOSHUA steps forward.
JOSHUA
Is it true? Did you kill the controlling mugger?
DAVID
Joshua how long have you been...?
JOSHUA puts his arm around DAVID.
JOSHUA
Long enough.
DAVID
Then you saw it for yourself. I killed Elizabeth Williams.
JOSHUA
Then the children are safe?
DAVID
It does seem that way!
A crowd of vulnerable children enter, looking relived.
JOSHUA
You are their hero.
The children bow to DAVID.
DAVID
There is no need to bow to me. I seek no worship. The knowledge that Elizabeth Williams will never rob children ever again, is enough for me.
JOSHUA
You are humble as well as brave!
One of the children passes DAVID a mystical pendant
JOSHUA
I think they want you to have it, as a symbol of their gratitude.
DAVID
I couldn't possibly.
Pause.
DAVID
Well, if you insist.
DAVID takes the pendant.
DAVID
Thank you.
The children bow their heads once more, and leave.
DAVID turns to JOSHUA.
DAVID
Does this mean you want me back?
JOSHUA
Oh, David, of course I want you back!
DAVID smiles for a few seconds, but then looks defiant.
DAVID
Well you can't have me.
JOSHUA
WHAT?
DAVID
You had no faith in me. You had to see my scare a mugger to death before you would believe in me. I don't want a lover like that.
JOSHUA
But...
DAVID
Please leave. I want to spend time with the one person who stayed with me through thick and thin - my best friend, Carla.
CARLA grins.
JOSHUA
But...
CARLA
You heard the lady. Now be off with you. Skidaddle! Shoo!
JOSHUA
David?
DAVID
I'm sorry Joshua, but I think you should skidaddle.
JOSHUA leaves.
CARLA turns to DAVID.
CARLA
Did you mean that? You know ... that I'm your best friend?
DAVID
Of course you are!
The two walk off arm in arm.
Suddenly CARLA stops.
CARLA
When I said I bite my toenails, you know I was just trying to distract the mugger don't you?
