"Do you believe in fate?" I looked at her shocked. Dan also did. "Well," Dan was nervously scratching the back of his neck. "That's a tough one. I used to, but I'm not so sure anymore," he answered a bit sadly. I heard Brittany laughing and make a remark about how "the Goth girl would be the one to ask weird questions." Knots started forming in my stomach and I was starting to feel light headed. This can't be happening to me. Avery must have noticed because she shot me a worried glance before getting up. She helped me up from my desk and started walking towards the door without saying anything.
"And where are you two girls going off to?" Dan asked suspiciously. "I don't think you've noticed, but your student isn't feeling really well. I'm going to bring her to get a drink of water." Avery spat at him. Dan looked at me with concern, but his blank expression quickly returned before be nodded. "Alright, I'll let you go. Just don't forget about the detention," he said and turned back to the other students. Avery helped me into the washroom where I then collapsed and started bawling my eyes out. I wasn't a big crier. I really only cried if someone close to me died, which hadn't happened in a long time- That or if I saw a sad animal video.
"Shh, it's ok honey. You'll get through this. You're a strong girl," she whispered to me as she rubbed my back. "You heard him Ave. He doesn't know if he's in a relationship! He's going to end things between us in detention!" I yelled with a cracked voice while bawling even harder. "Sky, he loves you! He just said that things were complicated. Even if he's angry he'll probably wait for you!" Avery said confidently. Why would he wait for me? He obviously thinks I lied to him about this. "I don't think he will though."
BEEP
"Look, let's just go to class and well think about this during detention," Avery said as she helped me up. She ran into one of the stalls and came out with toilet paper for me to fix my face. I thanked her after I was cleaned up and headed out to our next class.

I was super quiet. Second period was the weirdest. Mr. Edwards, my chemistry teacher, kept glancing over at me. Was it really that obvious that I had been crying?
It was finally time for detention, which I had been dreading all day. I would've much rather had to repeat that same chemistry class another twenty times. This is where it all ends. I slowly walked down the hall towards the calculus classroom. I tried walking right past it, but Avery dragged me inside. I attempted holding onto the door, but she was able to pry me away.
"Hello ladies. Would you mind closing the door?" Dan asked us. We both nodded and did as he requested. "Thank you. Please take a seat," he asked, which sounded more like an order. Once we sat down the room went dead silent. It seemed like we could hear a pin drop from a mile away. Dan slowly walked back to his desk and sat down. He rolled up his sleeves and propped his elbows on his desk and looked like he was thinking. He stared at nothing for a long time. I could tell he was thinking hard. He's probably trying to find the proper break up words. "Stand up Ms. Evans," he ordered strongly. I flinched at his tone and slowly got up. He started walking towards me and I could see Avery making a fist. Dan stopped directly in front of me.
"Look at me Sky," he said quietly. I complied and when I did I wanted to look away. His eyes looked so sad and disappointed. We looked at each other for a long time, neither of us moving. Dan suddenly brought me in for a hug. I let out a breath that I didn't realize I was holding and squeezed him as hard as I could. Is this supposed to be the last hug? I didn't want to let go if it was, but Dan eventually loosened his grip and took a step back, keeping his hands on my arms. I tried to say something, but soon felt Dan's lips on mine. He quickly deepened the kiss, which confused me, but I felt safer in his arms so I responded. Dan quickly pulled himself away and ran his hands down his face.
