"Lainie, you better hurry! You have to leave in a hour!" I hear my mom yell as I paced around my room. Why didn't I pack for Digi earlier... I was going to meet so many of my favorite YouTubers and I had to make a good impression. I had been saving up for so long to go yo my first YouTube event. I had a pass to meet my favorite YouTubers of all time - the Settle Down Kids. Ever since I came across their channel, I couldn't stop watching SDK's videos every week, as well as all the guys main channels. The boys are all just so hilarious and kind hearted. Even during some of the hardest times in my life, they could always make me smile.
Anyways, I continued to rush so that I could pack in time to leave. I quickly packed my favorite floral skater dress as well as several cute tanks, shorts, and my striped romper and bathing suit. I also threw in my favorite Vans, high top converse, black gladiator sandals, and flip flops. I hurriedly shoved some mascara, foundation, highlighter, straightener, and eyeliner into a cosmetic bag and zipped up my suitcase. DigiTour wasn't too far from my house, but me and my best friend Alicia we're going to drive up tonight and stay in a hotel for two nights. I could barely stand the excitement of getting the chance to meet some of the people I had been watching and supporting for almost four years. Suddenly, I started to worry. What if I was super awkward in front of them? What would I say?
I spent about an hour getting ready for the 5 hour drive from my hometown, Stamford (Connecticut) to DigiTour in Detroit. I showered, put on my favorite pair of blue Nike shorts, a grey tank, and threw my hair into a messy bun. Right as Alicia pulled into the driveway, I hurriedly put on some mascara and eyeliner. Since today was just a driving day, I decided to go Alicia and I both turned 19 a few months ago, after deciding to take a gap year to save money for college. I screamed when I saw Alicia. "I'm so excited!!!" she squealed back. I loaded my suitcase into the trunk of her black minivan.
"I will never not feel like a soccer mom driving this piece of junk around," Alicia said. I laughed at her as we headed off. After about two and a half hours of driving, we stopped by Subway for lunch. Alicia had been going on and on for the past hour about how excited she was to meet Adam and Nick Buongiovanni. The twins make up 2/6 of SDK and they are Alicia's favorites. As we wait for our sandwiches, I check my phone to see a tweet from Joey Gatto, another member of SDK. My personal favorite is Ryan, and I have always found Joey to be a bit obnoxious.
@JoeyGatto: The van just broke down on the way to Digi. Not really sure how to handle this....
I gasped. "Al, SDK might to make it to Digi according to Joey's Twitter!"
"WHAT?! Lainie, please tell me you're joking" She yelled, as we climbed back into her car. "How? Why?"
"Well," I replied, "Their van broke down on the way from New Jersey to Detroit." Then I had an idea. It would only be a slight detour to head a little south to New Jersey to pick them up...
