As I laid in the king size bed I shared with Alicia, I tossed and turned. I picked up my phone and began scrolling though my Twitter feed. A DM popped up and I quickly clicked over to it.
@JoeyGatto: Had a rad time getting to know you tonight. Check your followers, I made sure all the boys followed you and Alicia before they passed out.
I smiled to myself and checked my notifications to see, sure enough, eight new followers. If Alicia hadn't fallen asleep the second her head hit the pillow, we would both be fan girling right now. I typed out a reply to Joey.
@LainieMueller: haha this is so cool like actually thank you Joey. Thanks for not being just obnoxious :)
I laughed to myself as I sent the DM, because I'm not really a smiley face type girl. A new message quickly popped up.
@JoeyGatto: You're welcome lol... I'm guessing you can't sleep either, wanna meet me in the lobby in 5?
@LainieMueller: Sure, why not. See you then.
I quickly threw on my striped romper because it basically felt like pajamas, and my black vans. I kept my hair up in a ponytail and didn't bother with anything other than mascara. It was already 3 AM, so looking my best wasn't really possible anyways. I hopped on the elevator and saw Joey sitting on the lobby couch.
"Follow me," he said, as he headed back toward the elevator I had just came out of. He took me to the room he shared with Nolan, Adam, and Nick, and motioned for me to be quiet as we snuck in, waving off the confused look on my face. We crept towards the window in the dark room and he opened it, and to my surprise, climbed out. Turns out their room was connected to one of the fire escapes because it was on the top floor. We climbed out into the wobbly ladder, still not saying a word. We made it to the top do the ladder and emerged into the roof of the building.I looked out across Detroit at all the lights of the city, still alive even though it was the middle of the night.
"Beautiful, isn't it?" Joey asked as he looked peacefully across the landscape in front of us.
"It really is. This is the most calm I've felt in a while." Joey was so easy to talk to, I had come to appreciate how he was just such a real person. Don't get me wrong, I love Ryan, but Joey was so different. While I loved Ryan in a fangirly way, I shocked myself by how much I enjoyed being sound Joey.
"Nice shoes, by the way. Vans are the best," he said, disrupting my train of thought.
"Oh, haha, thanks. They are nice because they pretty much go with anything." I blushed a bit at his compliment, even though it was just my shoes. All of a sudden, Joey started beatboxing along with the hum of the power generator we were propped up against. I laughed and was also in awe of his talent- it really was even cooler in real life.
"That is actually so cool. I wish I could do something that unique. I really just play the guitar... and not very well," I laughed.
"No way! I do too. It's an awesome instrument. So do you like to sing too?" I blushed at his question.
"Really only to my shower" I replied. "I'm not as good as you."
"No way. Don't let anyone, especially yourself, judge how talented you are. Except maybe Oprah." We laughed together. Of course an Oprah reference would come along soon enough.
"Please sing something for me. I won't judge you I promise." He continued to pester me, and I surprised myself by eventually giving in. He started beatboxing to Justin Bieber's "What do You Mean" and I joined in at the chorus. When we finished, Joey just stared at me. Oh god.
"Damn. I was really bad wasn't I? I should have never-"
"What?! No no no no nooo!" Joey cut me off. "You're amazingly talented. We should collab or something. How are you not like, famous?" I laughed in shock. I was so self conscious of my voice, and I had actually sent in front of a real musician, and he liked it? Crazy.
"Well, I'm not very confident in my own ability, and I mostly just spend time admiring other people's work. I honestly can't believe I sang in front of you just now."
"Well I'm glad you did," Joey said, "You're great. It means a lot that you could open up to me, actually." Honestly, I felt the same way. It was crazy how much my option on him changed in a matter of one crazy night.
"Thanks for being so open. I haven't found someone I can talk to like you in a long time... not really even since I met Alicia in 7th grade." I admitted.
"Lainie, you're a really cool girl. I'm glad I got to meet you too." he said with a smile. Even in the near pitch black darkness, Joey's gorgeous blue eyes sparkled. I actually really liked this guy. Crap.Joey and I had been in the roof for almost an hour but if felt like a second. It was near four in the morning, and Joey and I decided it was probably a good idea to head back to our rooms. I handed him back his jacket that he had let me wear because I was cold. As we stood up, our arms brushed and we glanced at each other trough the night. Something that felt almost magnetic pulled my face towards his as our lips collided together. It was a kiss unlike anything I had ever expirienced. Joey's soft hands held me against the wall on the roof as he kissed me even harder. I wrapped my hands around his neck and he slid his hands back down to my waist.
"This is crazy" I mumbled as I finally came up for air. Joey just smirked at me goofily as we continued to make out for at lest ten more minutes. We ended up on the ground, me straddling Joey as we continued to kiss. My watch beeped 4AM, and I realized I needed at least four hours of sleep if I wanted to have enough energy for Digi tomorrow. Well, technically today. Yikes. The tiredness would be worth this time with Joey, though. I reluctantly pulled away from the kiss but Joey just moved down and started kissing my neck. I groaned.
"Joooeeey. You and the boys have shows tomorrow, and I'm going to see Jack & Jack."
Joey stopped as he agreed with what I was saying. He laughed and said, "What about your meet and greet with us?" I giggled and playfully slapped his hand way from my neck.
"I think we should give more fans time with you guys, me and Alicia have had plenty."
"Well, that's true I guess. At least give me your number so we can meet up at some point." I agreed, punching it into his phone.
"See you in four hours" I said, grinning, as we climbed back down the ladder into his room. He just smiled at me and flopped down next to Nolan in the bed they shared. I carefully shut the door and made my way back to my room, smiling the whole way.
