The Dragon Keeper (HTTYD2 x Reader Story)

Y/n POV

I woke up the next morning to an annoying Shadow licking my face. "Ugh, Shadow! Why would you do that?" "We are going to start teaching you dragonese today." She replied, after she was done licking me. "Ok, I'm ready." I replied, after wiping off her saliva. I stood up and was given some cooked fish to eat before we headed out into the Sanctuary. It looked as if all the dragons had gone out to catch fish, and Shadow left to go join them. I had no disturbances on my walk to the Alpha, all was quiet and peaceful, with only a few baby dragons playing about.

"Good morning, Alpha." I said as I saw him below, resting and waiting for me. "Good morning Your Highness." The Alpha said, startling me. "Your Highness? What do you mean?" "You are the Dragon Keeper from the prophecy." I didn't know how to reply so I kept quiet. I noticed the dragons starting to come back, along with Shadow. "Shall we start?" The Alpha said as I watched Shadow descend. "What? Oh, Sure" I answered, turning to look back at the Alpha.

It was about midnight before I had learned dragonese fluently. It took the whole day due to the fact that humans weren't really built to 'speak' like dragons. Even so, it seemed to be easier for me due to the fact that I was the 'Dragon Keeper' or something. Now I could talk to dragons without humans knowing, if I ever see any again.

I walked to my new home slowly, thinking about my old home. I actually liked it here more already although I did miss my twin. Eret will probably become a dragon trapper, and I'm guessing that being the 'Dragon Keeper', I'll be the opposite. The best part of living in the sanctuary was that I wasn't made fun of for being small. The hard part was the fact that I couldn't fly, and it was lonely being the only human around.

As I reached the cave I noticed Shadow wasn't there yet. 'She must me talking with the Alpha.' I thought as I laid down and fell asleep.

I awoke the next morning to the smell of cooked fish. I sat up and yelped as I got a face full of fish, before it was dropped into my lap. "Good morning Shadow!" "Morning! What do you want to do today, and can you speak in dragonese please?" "Yeah, I guess I can speak in dragonese for you now. How about flying?" "Flying? But you can't fly can you?" "Well no, but I could try riding on your back?" "Sure I guess. Lets try it." So we set out to try flying with me on her back.
