I watched as Kenya stormed out of the room, listening as her car's engine roared to life and the tires skid on the pavement as she sped off. I clenched my fists tightly by my sides before leaving the room myself and venturing downstairs, where everyone was dressed in black and in a frenzy about what they were going to do. I joined the blonde vampire's side and crossed my arms over my chest.

"What'd she say?" He asked me, knowing about the potion I'd created and offered her.

Before I could respond, Brendon noticed me and walked over, dragging Link along with him. "Well?" The older of the two inquired, wanting to know the same thing the vampire did.

The four of us were the only ones to know about the potion, hoping Kenya would take it so that we could send her and Lynn away, ending this war ourselves. This wasn't my idea, but theirs. They had all gotten together and discussed it without me, only bringing me in to convince Kenya to take the potion Brendon had concocted, the guys claiming that she and I had a connection like no other. Not knowing any better, and being promised that the fighting in New Orleans would come to an end once and for all if this plan went through, I agreed.

I shamefully shook my head no.

"Goddammit," Brendon muttered, stomping his foot, "I knew we should've just given it to her in her sleep or something."

"Guys, her mate just died...give her a break," I tried to get them to understand, "We'll get it to her one way or another, but I don't think we should force it on her."

"You don't understand, Rachael," Patrick retorted, rolling his eyes, "She's not going to do anything she doesn't want to do on her own, even if it'd be for the better of everyone else."

"What the hell did you say to her?" A second female voice broke into the conversation. I turned my head and saw Lynn charging for me. When she was in arm's reach of me, she placed her hands on my shoulders and shoved me back. "You were supposed to talk to her, to calm her down, and all you did was make her more angry!"

"Hey, it's not her fault," Brendon stepped up for me, wedging himself in between the human and me, "She tried, okay? But Kenya's stubborn, you and I both know that."

Lynn growled and muttered something incomprehensible under her breath before pivoting on her heel and walking away from us.

"So, I'm just going to assume that she doesn't like me either," I murmured.

Brendon heaved a sigh while rubbing his forehead and turning around to the rest of the group. "We should get going, the funeral starts in twenty minutes." He suggested as he headed for the door, Link and the rest of us followed, to the sad occasion.

Surveying the full bar, I watched as hundreds of wolves flooded in and out. A band was struck and the music was in full blast, and an upbeat New Orleans tune running through the air. Men and women on the dance floor moving about. There were only a few mournful faces as drinks were passed along from the bar chosen by the pack. In the corner of the room, Brendon, Patrick, Link, and myself observed as the scene continued on.

"As if parading the man down the streets wasn't enough..." Patrick muttered while gazing around at the few faces, some people glaring back at him, "God, I need a drink, you guys want anything?" He screamed over the music that was rising as people shouted in approval to the new song. Brendon shook his head no. Patrick's eyes wandered to me, the corner of his lip curling up as he suggested, "The usual for you, I'm guessing?"

I smiled, going to respond when my step father jumped in. "Don't even think about it," He scolded me, shooting a disappointed glare in my direction.
