"I know she's going to be pissed I called someone for her," Will muttered to the person he called, walking them into the bar, "But she wouldn't let me call her a cab or take her home, or even tell me if she had one."
"No, that's quite alright," Patrick replied while entering the establishment and picking Halsey up off of the ground, where she was sitting against the wall, her legs spread out in front of her and her hands resting like dead weights in her lap. The girl groaned and dropped her head onto her father's shoulder, complaining she had a headache. "Oh you'll be fine," He reassured her before turning his attention to the vampire and saying, "Thanks for calling me, Will. I really appreciate it."
The barkeep nodded while giving a sympathetic look to the blue haired girl. The father nodded to him with gratitude before slowly dragging his daughter out of the bar and towards his car parked out front. "You know, every parent dreams to have a very successful child," He mumbled as he and Halsey walked outside, "Ones that are mature, married, and possibly employed. But what did I get? I got a drug abusing alcoholic."
"Excuse you." The hybrid ripped away from her father and stumbled, but caught her balance. "I'm not just an alcoholic, I'm a functioning alcoholic. God, Dad, there's a diff-" Once again the nauseating feeling bubbled up inside of her and she bent over, releasing more from her insides.
"Right, functioning." Patrick shook his head. "You know, Kenya told me this would happen, and I didn't want to force you into rehab, but-"
"Oh, not you too." Halsey laughed while wiping her mouth and leaning on the car. "What don't you people get about the words I'm fine?"
"You're not fine, Ashley."
"You don't get to call me that," The vampire and witch crossbreed snapped, starting to feel more sober as the time rolled by.
"I'm your father, I can call you whatever I please." Patrick was tired of these games. He'd danced around Halsey's issues, enabled her habits, and he had been yelled at by so many people for his lack of action. He was not about to take abuse from his own daughter. But then again, Halsey had always been a spirited one.
"Why don't you tell me what you really think of me? Huh?" The girl bit out, the effects of the alcohol not fully worn off and encouraging her to reveal to her father all the hurtful things bothering and destroying her, "You think I'm a mistake, a burden to you. I'm the worst thing that happened to you, right?"
"No, Halsey, that's not true. Your mother and I-"
"Oh, yes, you and Mom, I know," She cut him short, "You and Mom loved me, you really did, and you just wanted what's best for me. So you pretended to be humans and had me thinking that I was a human too for the first fifty years of my goddamn life. Well guess what, Dad? You fucked up! Both of you! Who even said I wanted to be normal? And who ever gave you the idea that you could be normal? There's a reason we're called paranormals, Dad. We don't get to be normal. And you know what?" She peeled herself away from the car and staggered toward the vampire struck with silence. "I'm proud to not be normal. And you should be too, but you're not, and neither was Mom. And the two of you somehow got together and formulated this idea that one day the two of you could be normal together. And that, Dad, is why you and she failed. Because you wanted something you couldn't have."
"We wanted you, Ashley," He dared to respond, "That's all we've ever wanted - you, our daughter. And you know what? You're a goddamn fucking miracle. Vampires aren't supposed to have kids, but guess what? Your mom had you, I'm your dad, and you need to start acting like the girl I raised. Because whatever this is..." He walked around her and ripped the car door open. "...is not my daughter. So get your ass in the car and try to find the girl I know is still in there." He threw his hand into the car, motioning for her to get in.
