The hybrid rolled her eyes and slipped into the backseat, the car door being slammed shut behind her. Patrick slipped into the front and closed the door behind him, refusing to speak another word to her as he started the car up and sped away.
Like a child, Halsey placed her hands on the window as Patrick pulled into a place she'd never seen before. The place was absolutely gorgeous, ambient lights illuminating the stretch of road that wrapped around the facility and a small waterfall on each side of the entrance. "Where the hell did you take me?" She muttered.
"A little place I like to call rehab," He answered, kicking his door open and getting out.
"What? No!" Halsey shouted, following after him, "You can't do this to me, Dad! This isn't fair!"
"Fair? You want to talk about fair? Alright. It's not fair that I've had to drag you out of several bars. It's not fair that I'm constantly paying off your drug dealers and tabs. Oh and let's not forget that I'm paying your bills and that you've been living on my couch for more than a month now." Patrick gave his daughter a sarcastic smile. "You think all of that's fair to me?"
"You're my dad," She muttered, stopping in her tracks, "You're supposed to take care of me."
"Ashley, I will always love and care about you, and I will give you anything you need, but I can't support you forever." The lead singer gestured towards the rehabilitation facility. "I have a lot of mistakes and I'm trying to fix them - starting with you. Not to say you're a mistake, but it was my mistake for letting your habits and addictions get out of control. It was my fault for never letting you grow up, and it's my fault that you hate me, so I brought you here."
"Well bringing me here doesn't make me like you any more," The hybrid sneered, crossing her arms.
"You don't have to like me. But just know that I love you, and you'll always be my little princess, no matter what."
Halsey rolled her eyes, muttering, "If I had my powers right now, I would so snap myself out of here right now."
"Well I guess it's good that your mother took them away." He gently grabbed his daughter's arm and guided her towards the building. "It's a year program; they have a bunch of things you can do here, like art and cooking classes."
"But what about Mom? And Link? And Kenya?"
"Link and Kenya brought this place to my attention, and your mom will be back to normal soon, Kenya called me earlier to say she found a countering spell." Patrick could see the fear forming in Halsey as her breathing became quick and her movements shaky and unbalanced. "Link said he's going to try and visit you at least once a month, and I'm just a phone call away, Ashley. So are Pete, Joe, and Andy."
She didn't really care about the people left in her life, she just wanted to prolong the situation. She didn't want to be here. She finally found herself, and although it might've been in alcohol and drugs, she wasn't ready to give her identity up in order to reinvent a new one.
"And besides, I think you'll like it here," Patrick added, nodding toward the entrance. Halsey's gaze traveled over to the doors and gasped when she saw who it was.
"Brent!" The girl exclaimed, breaking away from her dad and rushing over to the vampire she stayed with in New Orleans when everyone else abandoned her. The hybrid jumped at the vampire and pulled him into a hug, tears falling from her eyes as she clung onto him. "Oh my god, Brent, I missed you so much."
"Aww, I miss me too sometimes." The man held a dopey grin on his face as he held on to his best friend. "About time you got here, I was starting to feel a bit lonely."
"Why are you here?" She questioned while pushing herself away from him, noticing that he had a clean pair of clothes on.
Brent leaned in and whispered, "I'm supposed to tell you that I came here myself, but your dad told me if I didn't come here, he'd kill me. So...you know."
Halsey chuckled and shook her head. "Of course."
"Okay, I'm gonna go check you in," Patrick interjected, joining Halsey's side, "They already have your room together, so you can take your stuff up." The hybrid raised an eyebrow. "Your bags are in the back of my car," He explained, "I packed them for you while you were out." He met Brent's gaze. "And you better take care of my daughter while she's here or I'll kill you."
Brent nodded his head. "You got it, Pattycakes."
"That's Mr. Stump to you," The singer mumbled, patting the fellow vampire on the shoulder before escaping into the facility.
"God, he's so not chill sometimes," Halsey murmured, her cheeks growing red in embarrassment as she rubbed the back of her neck nervously.
"He's an old, lonely vampire. What do you expect?" Brent replied, wrapping his arm around Halsey's back and leading her inside.
